I had RMY on August 16, 2012. At my highest I weighed 306. When I started the process I weighed 290 and I had to loss 20 pounds before surgery. On the day of surgery I was 258 and this morning I am 228. Seems like it has been a long road.

You're doing awesome, Chris! My RNY surgery was August 7. Since then I've lost 37.5 pounds. It is a journey, but we're better for it. I'm still having difficulty with solid food, but I see it as a way to retrain my brain. Myfitnesspal is a great way to track your calories and protein, as well as daily activity. Best wishes for your days ahead!

Hi! Sounds like everyone is doing great! I had my RNY on 9/27/12 and am getting ready to start soft foods. My highest weight was 246 about a year before the surgery. I was denied by my insurance twice before I got the approval. (I was finally approved because of many other health factors.) I weighed 213 the morning of the surgery and in 17 days have only lost 8 pounds. My dietitian wants me to get as close to 1000 calories a day as I can and I am having a rough time getting close to 600. Part of me is not sure I did the right thing. I am exercising as I am supposed to, following the diet, getting my water in, getting the protein in, but I don't see any more weight loss than I did before the surgery. Kind of seems like the surgery, for me, was pointless.

I completely understsand what you are saying. I have been at a stand still for a couple of weeks now and feel like I was losing more before surgery. The issue, as my dietician explained, our bodies are thinking it is straving and takes what we eat and stores it. So at times the weight loss isn't much. BUT it is the lifetime results that you need to be looking at. A stand still in the weight loss is much better than a gain...as we may have done before surgery.

My dietician wants me to eat between 600-1000 calories a day. I usually hit 700-800 a day. I have had issues with exercise as I have a super bad back. But the past 2 weeks it is not hurting as much. So as of last night, I am walking. Hubby and I walked a mile last night. I walked it again this afternoon and hubby joined me for a second walk today...also a mile. I am hoping this helps.

I was the same way, at first. Last week I lost 5 pounds, this week nothing. But it's okay. As long as it comes off and doesn't go back on! At this point. I'm supposed to be hitting 1200 calories and it just isn't happening. It's a good day if I can get in 1000. I think once we can tolerate more foods, we'll hit our calorie goal. My doctor keeps telling me to eat more food. When was the last time we heard that???

Don't get discouraged...you didn't get heavy overnight and it will take a while to lose the weight. Every one is different. You just had the surgery and remember you will keep losing and within a year you will wonder why you doubted the surgery. If you follow what the Doctor advises you to do , you will get there.I had RNY 12/30/2009 weighing in at 309 and a year later 12/30/2011 I weighed 180.7. As of today I am 158.7. You will do it...have faith.

30 pounds in a month is fantastic...

It took nearly a year to lose that 30 pounds. The greatest loss I have seen was 10 pounds the weeks before the surgery, while I was on the Bariatric Advantage protein shakes. Now I might get a pound a week, but you are right--at least the weight is going down and not up!

Are you following up with the surgeon? Did you have the RNY?

I see my surgeon and dietitian about every five weeks. I also attend their support groups. Everyone seems the think the weight loss is slow because there isn't much to lose. I am in the one's right now and was just a little over 200 when I had RNY. It's all good.
