Thessalonians 5:11
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

Today I am asking for your prayers. This weight loss thing is a real struggle for me, and the scale has not moved. The biggest hurdle for me is to be focused and mindful of it in the midst of a very busy season of life, and that includes fitting in exercise (Go Shirley!!) . Tuesday being a travel day, I determined to set it aside for myself and focused on making good choices on the road. I had a good day! Wednesday will be a day spent with my colleagues and I will actually have a lot of opportunity to walk. I want to make the right choices so the walking has a net positive affect.

And know that I am praying for each of you today, too! If there is a specific area of prayer need you have, let us know.

  • I have definitely been where you are - too busy! Right now I am in between classes so that is affording me a little more time. I have always had a hard time counting my calories, when I did weight watchers in the past I used to estimate way too much. It is time consuming at first but it does get easier once your usual foods are on your list.

In the Scale Down program she talked about the fact that weight loss is - calories in verses calories out. She compared it to our check book, we have to have an idea of what is going on or else we get in trouble. This has really helped me because at the end of the day if I am in the hole with my calories - I head to the gym. I joined Planet Fitness it is only 10 per month for the basic membership and they are open 24 hours a day Monday through Friday. It was hard at first but now I enjoy it, I take my headphones and watch a show that I would at home relaxing. I know this wouldn't work for everyone but this is just one idea.

Another thing that she emphasizes is that we need to "be transformed by the renewing of our minds". She sells CD with positive self talk to help retrain out thinking in this area and help change our focus to what God is doing in us as we make good choices. I just started to listen to this last night but I definitely know that what I tell myself on this journey really affects what I do.

Praying for you today and the other ladies in our group! Trusting that God will give us victory!

I can so relate to the busyness of daily life but I'm learning that I NEED to take time to take care of myself if I want to be the wife, mother, pastor's wife, friend, etc that God wants me to be and also to be productive and clear-headed for my work. A definite blessing for me is that I have a home office (medical transcription), no traveling to work, can take time for appointments, soccer games, whatever else is on my calendar or unplanned things that come up during the day. I definitely have to be disciplined to sit and do my work though when there are many times that I would rather be doing something else. I have such a long list of things that I could do in my spare time (? is there such a thing?) but I've made the decision that taking care of myself and getting exercise and eating well (which requires time for planning, shopping, gardening, spending time in the kitchen) are at the top of the list for things I need to accomplish each day. Many times the exercise is incorporated into things that need to get done like gardening work, raking leaves, cleaning the house, etc.

10/mo for a gym is excellent! We're in the boonies so all we have available is a community center in the next town over. Used to have a membership but the cost went up... have a treadmill at home, Wii Fit, Walk-It Out, outdoor walking and bicycling when it's nice enough outdoors! Colder weather is creeping in though which I don't care for too much!

Praying for our group of ladies too!

By the way, would anyone mind if some other ladies (Nazarenes from my church) join our group who didn't go to the retreat?
