Personal shopper?

I was toying with the idea of hiring a personal shopper next year to help me better dress myself. Over the years, I've lost and gained weight, had two kids, moved overseas...styles, trends and designs have changed so much that I feel pretty overwhelmed!
Has anyone had a successful personal shopper experience? Would you consider paying for one?
(I actually have a FREE personal shopper experience coming up at a thrift store here in Minnesota. The form I was emailed to fill out asked for size, what I was looking for in terms of style, etc etc. It's next month, so I'm hoping I get a good experience from it...)

Never done it, but I would love to find a stylist to work with.
Sounds like fun, especially if it's free!0 -
Never had one, but I'd love to BE one. Like playing with life-sized Barbies!!!0

I read that the personal shoppers who are advertizing their services in big cities are getting commissions from the big department stores. Like a 10% commission at least. And they expect you to spend at least a couple of thousand. So she will get at least $200 in commission. If she gives you really good service you may want to give her a tip.0

Never done this, either, but it sounds fun! And if it's free, you've got nothing to lose. Good luck with it!0

I see you are in MN. There is a place at the Mall of America that is owned by Clinton Kelly (What Not To Wear) for personal styling. I know someone that works there. I forgot how far Lauderdale is from Bloomington but that might be something to check out.0

I did not know that!
I don't go to MOA very often, but I'm going to look into that. I love What Not To Wear~ XD0 -
Here it the description. It looks to be more tailoring but also helps with style.
Perfect Fit by Clinton Kelly (formerly Stitch It)
Clinton Kelly and Stitch It have formed a partnership to provide a service that combines functional alterations and practical advice to the customer on; how to wear the appropriate clothing for their body type, fitting their clothes by a trained stylist and recommending alterations that will be completed by expert seamstresses/tailors.0 -
I'm a Personal Stylist for J.Crew currently and our service is free....but it can be a bit of a pricey place to shop sometimes. I would check with the stores that you typically shop at the most. I know our actual store stylists work on commission so they tend to work with clients that spend quite a bit of money but the stylists that work through the catalog direct line (online and phone) are hourly so i think it gives us a little more freedom to work with a wider range of clients...but we help with everything from sizing to putting together outfits on polyvore and suggesting items that suit your needs (job intereview, special events, etc) I absolutely love it!0
