I'm not afraid of distance, I regularly cover 5-8 miles when I work out. But where I get hindered is actually making it continuous. I can't run 3 miles straight through, my legs ache from the pounding. I have to stop and walk and then pick up again. I've run 5k's before, and have had success at cutting my 5k time down by a lot, but I've never successfully completed a 5k non-stop on pavement (I can do it on a treadmill with reasonable success). I generally get to 1 or 1.5 mi and then have to walk to uncramp my legs and take a breather to release the tension. Then my legs are warmed up and I'm good to go for another 0.5 mi.
My goal is to run a 5k non-stop. I just don't know why I can't.

Ok - today's treadmill baseline. I ran 40 mins straight through varying speeds between 5.0 and 7.0 mph. I covered about 4.22 mi, my legs ached a bit on the first mile or two, but I pushed past it and felt warmed up. I'm going to hit the pavement at the park tomorrow and switch it up. Save my mile in a go distance for later on in the workout when I feel warmed up. I'll report back!0

You will absolutely be able to do this. You are just psyching yourself out somehow, because physically you are more than capable.
good luck!!0 -
Yes!!! I think you can do it, too! Did you run at the park? I can't remember if I saw a status update for it.0

Yeah. I can do the distance in a go, its just connecting it all and making it continuous. I'm 100% certain it is mental. I think I just need someone to push me and make me do it off treadmill. I ran a 5k on the treadmill at the gym today, and what was nice about it was I could just sink into the zone and not think about it. I never seem to get into the zone on pavement, I always feel like I need to look down to make sure I don't trip. I never focus on anything on the treadmill, on pavement I focus on everything.0

I'm doing the Fools and Ghouls 6.66 mi trail run tonight. I will keep you posted on what happens.0

Couldn't run the whole thing, but I was pleased that on the non-rocky terrain I ran all of it. Still not three continuous miles, but definitely a lot further than my usual intervals. I completed the course in 1:50.0 -
That's pretty darn good, girl! *high five*!0

New treadmill 5k PR of 30:30. I think in January, when I have more time I'm going to try the full 3.1 on pavement. I think I should be able to do it.0

I think you should, too! :bigsmile:0
