Doing some deployment training... they've updated their "signs of stress" from what was listed in previous years.
I hear some saying… why is she posting this? It does not apply to me. I thought that once:
When I was nursing my son, my milk was beginning to dry up and my hair was falling out. I conferred w/the nurse about my milk and she said my problem was stress. I told her I wasn’t stressed. She said but you mentioned your hair is breaking off/falling out. She forced me to look at my life and realized that I was indeed stressed. My then-husband, who had been growing more and more distant and irrational since coming back from Iraq, had decided to quit his job as a high ranking federal employee. Working was beneath him, and even though we could barely pay the bills with our two incomes he decided he wasn’t going to subject himself to that disrespect anymore.
She helped me realize that my body was showing the evidence of stress even when I mentally didn’t want to acknowledge what was happening. I was able to address this stress, restore my milk (and my hair) and move on with life.
I encourage everyone reading this thread to take stock of their life (and the lives of their loved ones) and see if stress could silently be hindering you (or them).
How does this related to being a single peep? Well, if you’re too stressed out it will be tough to hold the attention of the opposite sex. Also, you may do long –term damage to your body, as it’s been theorized that stress is the #1 contributor most of today’s diseases.
Signs of Stress
•Mental symptoms - problems concentrating or feeling motivated, intrusive thoughts, forgetfulness, negative ideas
•Emotional symptoms - feelings of insecurity, worry, sadness, pessimism
•Behavioral symptoms - sexual problems, sleeping difficulties, irritability, hostility, fearfulness, impatience, confrontational or rude impulses, becoming withdrawn, rigid, or hyperactive
•Physical symptoms - muscle fatigue & tension, headaches, rapid breathing or heart rate, indigestion or diarrhea, sweating, twitching or trembling, nausea, dizziness or light headedness, aches & pains, paralysis of limbs

Paralysis of limbs is the one that really got me.
Now I understand why some doctors look at carpal tunnel as both an emotional AND a physical problem.0 -
I've never been stressed to the point of diarrhea, hahaha!
I imagine if I didn't do certain "me" things in my life I would have more symptoms of stress. I used to eat when I got stressed and I still get that familiar pang - but now I know it means I just need to read a book, or do some running/weight lifting instead. I don't have any more than the usual stressors other than my crazy lady anxiety, but even that is manageable with the right methods that I seem to have down.0 -
I think it's ironic that I have most of these symptoms right now. However, I think my problem is a lack of stress or any form of stimulus for that matter. I strained my hamstring and haven't been able to run or do any lower body weight lifting for the last two weeks. It is aggravating me to be so sedentary again.0

That's terrible! I thought I had it bad because I hurt my knee and haven't been able to run for a while - but at least I can still do strength training and yoga! I hope you feel better soon!0 -
I have a lot of those symptoms
oh brother. Thanks for the post Janie! Good to know.

A lot of people don't realize what stress can do to you and your body! For a period of almost 8 months, my body hurt constantly, I'd get dizzy almost every time I stood up, had frequent anxiety attacks, I was losing hair, had amenorrhea, and all around just felt like total crap! I had a ton of tests done, and they couldn't find anything wrong with me. Then I was given another evaluation and they found it all to be stress-related.
It's dangerous... Thanks for posting0 -

It's funny you share this... I actually was diagnosed with carpal tunnel in both wrists a number of years ago. I now have no symptoms and rarely if ever feel any of the tell-tale numbness or tingling. Don't get me wrong; I recognize that the amount of weight I've lost played a part on the physical problem, but I also think that learning not to get so excited about everything has dealt with the stress in a whole new way.
Thanks for sharing this, Janie!0 -
I have experienced some of those signs you mentioned. Even some that aren't listed like gray hairs. Yep barely into my 30's and I got tinges of gray/white through out my hair. It's not noticeable unless you look real closely. Guess it's a good thing that there's women out there that dig the salt & pepper look, right? :laugh:I think it's ironic that I have most of these symptoms right now. Exercise is a great way to relive stress. That sucks about your injury. I remember going through a bout of depression when I found out about my bad ankles and had to dial back on the jogging. Hope you recover asap!0 -

Yeah, I get some of those symptoms too. Stress is a silent killer!!
I know this, but I still get stressed and have no idea how to overcome.
Well, tell a lie, sex is a good stress buster for me, but that's been kinda lacking of late
Great post Janie, and I'm sorry I brought it back to sex and relationships again.........:laugh:0 -

Bad sex adds to stress!
"Do I tell him? No, I don't have an interest in teaching him about sex. Besides, he's been doing this for how long? Doesn't he watch porn? That should tell him something is wrong. OH GOD now he's apologizing, do I have to tell him it's okay? This break up is going to suck. Is there a nice way of telling someone you want to see other people because other people have bigger d*cks?"
It's a pretty terrible situation.
EDIT: For the record, this is (mostly) tongue in cheek.0 -

Aww .. thank you Anna! No .. he isn't still around. He didn't like the fact that my world didn't revolve around him and I couldn't do things exactly how he wanted and on his timeline. So now he isn't speaking to me .. because he is 25 and I should have known better.
Anyway .. yes I read that somewhere too that those were the top stressers. I can agree with that! lol
Oh well. I can do what I can do and nothing more.0 -

Signs of Stress - I am definately feeling all of these this past month or so. I workout religiously but nothing is relieving my stress.

Jen I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I am praying that it will be the end of the school year so you have tons of time to find a new position. Or you could move here and live on the beach. That helps a lot with stress. lol0

I have a lot of those symptoms. I work out 4-5 times a week and am not losing weight. I think my stress is a part of that.
I need to find ways to simplify my life.0 -

Aweee Jeeeez! It doesnt rain, but it pours!! This is a bad phase in your life. I can see that. All I can say is: THE ONLY WAY IS UP!!!
RIng him up and use the boy for some sex, that'll teach him for being demanding!!! :laugh:0 -

Meghan, I am right there with you! I work out 5-6 days a week. I know there are a couple of things that I'm stressing over and are out of my control. I know I'm stressing about my application into nursing school and whether I am going to get accepted or not. I'm just glad that I don't have to stress about money right now! Almost all of my bills are paid off now that I have a job. I will only have two (car and 1 card) after November!
I silently stress about being single and not being able to get dates!0 -

Don't even find him attractive anymore. The way he acted is a total turn-off.0 -
And another, which will be relevant to all of us here, one way or another: Difficulty maintaining weight - most people either gain or lose significant amounts while under stress, depending on their physiological response - some eat more, others all but stop eating, possibly in relation to the amount of cortisol - the stress hormone - secreted by the individual. Cortisol is also believed to have an effect on where fat is deposited, and to influence insulin production/reaction in those who secrete high levels of the hormone, typically making it more difficult to lose weight. :grumble:0
