SAP Campus, 3999 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073
October 13, 2012
On-Site Registration Opens @ 7:00 AM
Race Starts @ 9:00 AM
Please join us for this inaugural 5k Run / 1 Mile walk in honor of Benjamin Earp. On January 13, 2012, Benjamin David Earp was born to proud parents Brian and Allison Earp. Sadly, he was very sick with a disease called X-Linked Mytubular Myopathy. Benjamin passed away on his 1 month birthday, on February 13th, 2012. He is dearly missed by all who knew and loved him for his short time with us.
All proceeds from this run will go to the Joshua Frase Foundation. The Joshua Frase Foundation supports ongoing research to find a cure or treatment for Myotubular Myopathy, and also supports families who are affected by congenital myopathies. For more information on the Joshua Frase Foundation, please visit their website at the following address: http://www.joshuafrase.org/
X-Linked Myotubular Myopathy is a congenital illness that affects roughly 1 in 50,000 live male births. Affected males are born with severe hypotonia, very weak reflexes and have little to no anti-gravity movements. More importantly and vital to survival, these children are born with extremely weak respiratory functions and a very high percentage of patients require mechanical ventilation, quite often for the duration of their life. Many patients will require tube feeding due to impaired swallowing muscles. The weakened respiratory muscles and damaged swallowing mechanism creates a challenging combination for patients, as these children cannot breathe sufficiently on their own nor can they control secretions from blocking their air wave. There is no known cure for this disease.
You can help support this very worthy cause in the following ways:
-Registering for the Run or Walk. Children 12 and under are free - no registration required.
-If you cannot attend, you can donate directly to the Joshua Frase Foundation at the following address:
https://payments.auctionpay.com/ver3/?id=w007142. Please make sure to note the donation is a tribute to Benjamin Earp. Also, if you are an SAP Employee, please consider using the SAP Matching Program.
There will be prizes for the top 2 male and female finishers and "Run For Benjamin" t-shirts will be available for the first 500 to register!
For a course map, please go to the address below: http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=488482
We hope to see you all at the event! For any questions, please contact Brian Earp at runforbenjamin@yahoo.com.
