We are going away for the weekend...visiting my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. I had my RNY August 16, 2012. I haven't had to deal with eating out. I have no idea how to work eating this weekend. I know we will be taking the kids out to dinner at least once. Any tips greatly appreciated.

Eat what you've been able to eat so far. Not a good idea to try new foods when you're out with family. What about soup or mashed potatoes? I had my surgery on August 7, 2012, and still have troub le with solid foods. So, when I go out to eat, I just order soup and eat it very slowly! Enjoy your weekend!0

I have been very lucky with what I can eat. I am handling solids real well.0

You are so lucky! I keep trying new foods, with little success. I'll get there eventually!0

I had my surgery 9/27/12 and am moving to a regular, low fat diet this Thursday. I have eaten out a couple of times with my sons and try very hard to stick with the meal plan. When I was on pureed foods, I ate at a Mexican restaurant and had a few bites of refried beans. I had egg drop soup when I was on full liquids. It's not easy, but most places have something you can fit in. Even McDonald's has salads and you can get a grilled chicken patty w/o the bun, etc. Just have to get a little creative. Most restaurants will work around the menu for you and I find that they are very sympathetic and eager to serve. Hope your trip goes well and you find some good things to eat, while enjoying family!0

I survived the weekend. I drank my protein shakes for breakfast...the hotel had breakfast so I used 8 oz skim milk in them. I ordered kids' meals whenever possible. I was in Philly and well when in Philly you must have a Philly steak and cheese sandwich. I ate only the steak and cheese...no bread. We went out to a traven for dinner and put what I knew would be all I could eat on another plate and then put the rest to the middle of the table and everyone else finished it for me. I came home and was down 2 pounds...so SUCCESS!!0
