question about adding weight

Hi all! I'm new to the group and to this program.

I know that I'm supposed to be adding 5lbs of weight each workout, but the lightest weights my gym has are 5lbs. Does it matter if I add the 5lbs on one side of the bar, or will that throw off my balance?

Thanks!

    Hi-
Welcome to Stronglifts....I think it matters-it will pull the balance of the bar off. It sounds like you may have to invest in smaller plates....I'm sure others can direct you as well, but I know amazon sells them--you may also find fractional plates or 2.5 lb plates on craigslist.

I got 2.5 pound plates at Sears for a little over $5 for the pair. I can't find 1.25 in a price I'm willing to pay (cheapskate!!!), but this is working fine for me: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/765366-sloppy-but-effective-solution

agreed, if your gym doesn't have fractional plates then buy your own ank keep them in your gym bag

do not add weight to one side more than the other, you don't want an unbalanced bar!!

Definitely don't want an unbalanced bar! That would drive me nuts. I found a set of 1.25 pound plates on Amazon for cheap!!

I got a pair of 2.5's at Sear's last week. I just eave them on the rack, haven't walked away yet.
