question about adding weight

Hi all! I'm new to the group and to this program.

I know that I'm supposed to be adding 5lbs of weight each workout, but the lightest weights my gym has are 5lbs. Does it matter if I add the 5lbs on one side of the bar, or will that throw off my balance?

    Hi-
    Welcome to Stronglifts....I think it matters-it will pull the balance of the bar off. It sounds like you may have to invest in smaller plates....I'm sure others can direct you as well, but I know amazon sells them--you may also find fractional plates or 2.5 lb plates on craigslist.

    I got 2.5 pound plates at Sears for a little over $5 for the pair. I can't find 1.25 in a price I'm willing to pay (cheapskate!!!), but this is working fine for me: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/765366-sloppy-but-effective-solution

    agreed, if your gym doesn't have fractional plates then buy your own ank keep them in your gym bag :happy:

    do not add weight to one side more than the other, you don't want an unbalanced bar!!

    Definitely don't want an unbalanced bar! That would drive me nuts. I found a set of 1.25 pound plates on Amazon for cheap!!

    I got a pair of 2.5's at Sear's last week. I just eave them on the rack, haven't walked away yet.
