Have you guys seen this? I highly recommend it, lots of things I didn't realize. They have the orignal one and then there are 3 other ones as well. They are all on netflix.

Yes. I really enjoyed it. It was nicely done, but it didn't feel too pushy. It opened my eyes to asking more questions to my doctor and looking at my real options.

I found the c-section rates alarming! In one of the other ones they talk about how all the babies delivered on the Farm, none of them have autism...makes you wonder what causes it. And they were saying how maybe epidurals, pictocin.etc are safe used individually, but have they ever been tested together? Just makes you think....and like you said have more questions for the doctor/midwife.

I'm very hesitant to try to make some link to autism though. Too many people try to make that huge leap without proof, and it's way overdone. It's fearmongering at its best.

When I was getting my masters I did a paper on autism and what some views on it is. I found that there was a lot of speculation about vaccines causing autism as well. Unfortunately scientifically they can't prove it one way or the other. Of course they are stating that they are finding more cases of it but this could be due to knowing what it is they are looking for and being able to identify it. Epidurals have been around for years and have been found in some cases to be hazardous to the mother more than the infant. Do not let me go on about ADHD and its over diagnosis in this day and age. Not trying to negate that some people truly have the disorder its just they try to diagnose children who have extra energy. Sorry went through this with my son back in kindergarten and if I hadn't stepped in with my doctor they would have seriously tried to medicate him. That is another story altogether. Sorry if seems like I am ranting I just feel very strongly with these disorders especially in children and I am big on research (I went to school for mental health counseling).

i started watching one last night. it's amazing how both of my births ended up w pitocin and the epidural. Which i was really really really trying to avoid. hoping 3rd time will be a charm w neither pitocin and the epidural.

I agree with the ADHD diagnosis, they just want to pin in on every child. Of course children are hyper, keep them busy, make them play outside...they need to expell their energy! I know there is no exact cause of autism and who knows if it can ever be found because there are so many variables. But I think there has to be some reason it's increased lately.

There is. The diagnosis criterion has changed, parents are more aware of autism than before, and that leads to increase in prevalence. CDC still has a great writeup on it: http://www.cdc.gov/Features/AutismPrevalence/index.html
