Baby has a "big stomach"

When I went in for my last ultrasound at 22 weeks on 10/17, the tech told me that my baby's stomach is measuring kind of big. Not "crazy abnormal" big but most definitely larger than average. He overall is a bit longer and weighs more than the average for his gestational age but both me and hubby are six feet tall so that somewhat explains it. I'm trying not to think anything of it but recently started watching my refined carb intake again now that I'm not nauseous anymore. I'm terrified of developing Gestational Diabetes! Has anyone else been told that their baby has a large tummy? Even if not, I need some peace of mind since I've been thinking about it off and on for the past two weeks lol.

I've never heard this, but my guess would be that it's because you and your hubby are both 6 ft...baby's DNA is to be on the larger side, I would think. Also, I wouldn't worry unless your doctor specifically told you it was something to worry about. :-)0

Thanks, you totally make sense lol. It was just one of those things like, she made it a point to emphasize it and then said, oh but it's probably not a big deal. So then why point it out? With all these preggo hormones it's hard to chill out, haha.0

People say things without thinking. The tech probably didn't think that she was saying anything of import. I wouldn't let it bother you. You could always call your dr's nurse line for reassurance.0

I don't know if this counts as "big" but at my last ultrasound (25 weeks LMP, 25w3days by measurements) my baby's tummy circumference measured 25weeks 6days, so a few days ahead, and almost a week ahead of the head circumference. No one mentioned it to me, I noticed it on the report. I was scared at first but they said don't worry about it. I also freaked out about the head but again they said don't worry it will just come out easier lol
Now I think it's kind of cute for the baby to have a bigger belly It's better than being skinny and undernourished. I'm sure if it was way toooooo big they would have sent you for futher testing.0 -

Very true - with my sister's first baby, the ultrasound tech told her he had a "big Charlie Brown head." Not the thing you want to hear when you are planning on a vaginal birth. (She did have a vaginal birth, but he had a normal size head and still does.)
I would also guess that it wasn't anything significant, just an observation. I'm sure, like others have said, that if it were something to be concerned about, they'd say something.0 -
I had a look at my u/s reports and my baby has always been considered "normal" even though not all of the measurements matched perfectly with where I was in my pregnancy. At my last one (36w3d) some measurements were 1-2 days behind, others 3-4 days ahead. Unless the measurements are really far off (ie. weeks) and your doctor brings it up, there's probably nothing at all to worry about.0

Wow, Charlie Brown head? LOL that's crazy! This lady said he's overall measuring a week or two ahead but then took the tummy measurement (I see a perinatologist) and was like wow, his stomach is big, and blah blah. I asked if it was bad and she said they're checking again on 11/28 and I have to have another glucose tolerance test (yay, not). I passed my first one with flying colors though, I just hate doing them. Y'all are right, the doctor would have said something if it was too abnormal. I'm just a worry wart sometimes I guess!0
