Here's my Boardman CX Team

When I collected the bike:

After I'd finished fitting, fettling and messing about with it...

The build was poor; as I went to fettle the rear disc brake, I went to loosen the rear calliper & I noticed someone had snapped off an Allen key in the nut  Had to dash back at 5:30 this evening to get them to sort it out...

Half of the bolts hadn't been tightened up properly; the stem was loose - In hindsight I should've asked for it boxed and built it myself - ho-hum, you live and learn...

Think it's all sorted now.

Don't forget, this is my winter & crap weather commuter hence the mug guards (fenders) and the 'disco lights'.

Haven't ridden it yet mind :noway:

Maybe tomorrow?

Hope you like it?

Nice... Like the "striplights" at the back - and what looks like my favourite rear light on theseatpin (Smart "migrane inducer" from the looks of it... as my occasional riding buddy refers to it - stick it on flash and nobugger will wheelsuck you )

Take it easy at first if you ride it tomorrow mate - bit different geometry/handling and those semi-knobblies won't feel the same as a set of 23mm slicks on the twisty stuff...

Knobblies off, 700 x 25 Schwalbe Marathon Plus' on

The picture doesn't do the Fibre Flares (strip lights) justice... Stick Fibre Flares into Google & watch the videos

I have seeeeeeeeeeeerious bike envy - lovely job - shame about the shoddy build they did in the shop though - good job you know what you're doing :-)

Well, first rides complete & I have to say, It's ideal for the job; it got filthy in the wind and rainy conditions, but I did not (thanks to the mud guards)

Did have a couple of little 'moments' when I went over a railway crossing and it sounded like I'd put a lollypop stick in my spokes; it turns out one of the rubber fittings for the new rear lights was clattering on my spokes instead - however, it did take me 5 miles of stopping and starting before I found the cause :noway:

Just have to make a minor adjustment on the saddle and bring it forward about a centimetre or so and that should be that...

Great bike, but if you get one, don't let 'Halfwits' (Halfords) build it for you!

Mmmmmm... new bikes are so sleek and sexy. Old bikes are like that comfy pair of sweats. You can never have too many bikes. Congrats on the new ride!

Certainly got me thinking, and I do wonder if there's a Planet-X Uncle John frame in my near future....

What kit would you put on it?

    Plus it's down to £174.99! http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FRPXUJV2/planet_x_uncle_john_cyclocross_frame

Well, main thing is all the kit from the superlight will fit, apart from the brakes, front mech and seatpin. A few yards of cable and I think i'd be in business...

it's a bit more than 175 though - theres another 99 for the forks, 20 for the headset and whatever the bits above run to... part of me just thinks "stick the raceblades on the superlight, ride it through the winter and retire it after that...

Truth be told, I'm getting slightly nervous about the Superlight frame these days - it's had a LOT of hammer, with a very big heavy bloke bouncing up and down on it... June 2007 until now, mostly with a 300+lb rider onboard... At least with old-school steel frames you could tell when they were getting a bit "past it" - they got spongey, but IIRC aluminium tends to get stiffer/more brittle as it work hardens then all of a sudden it just shears... At the price it was, I'm starting to just feel like it's done it's job, and it's time it was put out to grass.

Very nice indeed! Love the bright lights on the seatstays! Let us know how the Schwalbe Marathons hold up. I just put a pair on the bike for the winter this fall to see how they feel and work in the grunge (Schwalbe Marathons 420 HS).

I've swapped out the Marathon Plus' for a set of Durano Plus'; they're much lighter than the Marathons and have the same puncture protection - So far, so good!
