PS: I cannot fully express my gratitude to the Tea Party Republicans for gifting at least 5 Senate seats to the Democratic candidates over the last two elections.
It is by far the greatest service you have done for our nation.

Seriously.
Missouri President: Romney +10%
McCaskill over Akin : +16%
A 26% swing.
Indiana President: Romney +10%
Donnelly over Mourdock: +6%
A 16% swing.
Not ready for prime time.
Dumbest. Politicians. Ever ?0 -
Not quite over yet, but Michelle Bachmann and Alan West are in deep doodoo as well. Clearly not senatorial races, but I'm glad to see some of the fringe GOP candidates being tossed or at least only winning by the skin of their teeth.
Very glad Akin and Mourdock are gone.0 -
It always puzzles me that so many of these candidates appear to forget that women have been enfranchised for some time now, and that this is one of those subjects that are guaranteed to bring out the vote of those who are outraged by what you say - both women, and the many men who love and respect the women in their lives. If there was a 'Doh!' icon, I'd be using it, such is my response to these numpties.0

Two quick things:
1. These guys really, really, really believe this stuff. They can't keep their mouths shut--their inner crazy is not satisfied that they THINK crazy things--it wants them to SAY and DO crazy things as well.
2. They live in a sealed bubble of people who think like they do and thus have a diminished sense of self-control, self-censorship.
Both of these guys had a chance to walk their statements back and they couldn't (and wouldn't) do it. And in both instances, the ideas they espoused (esp the one about the sperm deflectors) are widely accepted in the ideological world they inhabit. Quite frankly, their views were not appreciably different from those expressed by Paul Ryan or the Republican platform. They were just too unsophisticated to keep their mouths shut.0 -
I am happy to see both of those idiots lose. The Republican party is going to be in serious trouble if they don't drop abortion. It's legal. Get over it.0
-
Still, Donnelley is the Harry Reid of Indiana. No winners here. Then again I didn't vote for Mourdock OR Donnelley. Both are insane!0

I agree! It's absolutely ridiculous. Republicans have moved so far away from what they used to be (they actually used to be FOR science and against religious nutjobbery.... if anyone could believe that).0 -
The Republican Party needs to separate itself from the Religious Right but they are currently unable to because they are the king makers in the House. FOX News keeps talking about this new generation of Republican stars coming up but if they still have to kiss the ring of the Religious Right, they are not going to be successful at all as the younger generations begin to make up more of the electorate.0

THIS! ^^
I can't believe that in this day in age with all the advancements we have made in Science, Education, Technology etc that Women are still having to fight for the right to control their OWN damn bodies.. It's sickening.
I wonder what the reactions would be if the government started telling MEN what to do with their bodies? I'm sorry but you are NOT allowed to place your bits into play unless you meet the following requirements:..... oh, and NO masturbating! :P (this is a joke by the way!)0 -
THe sad part is that if they had put up a good canidate they may have had a chance at winning. Being an independent myself there were several republicans I liked but the canidate had to be just so far right wing that I could accept any of his views (plus he looked like a car salemens and just kinda exuded blattant falseness) then to make matter worse rather than picking a VP canidate that would bring in independent he pick ..... well I'll be nice and not name call. The whole campaign has been poorly run and I kinda just have to look at them lik WTF wake up republicans. BTW they said Obama's highest voter population came from well educated women0

My favorite part is the bit where conservatives were calling Ryan a... *hold on, I have to supress my laughter here*.... libertarian.... Um... not even close!
If the GOP had chosen... oh, I don't know, Johnson (obviously), Paul, or Huntsman (not in any particular order)... then I probaby would have voted along party lines. Had our stupid primaries not been held up by redistricting and gerrymandering (not in that order) I might have had another choice... Thank the Lord though that Paul was still hanging on for dear life by the time we FINALLY got to vote in the primary... I didn't even vote for our dear Gov. Goodhair. Unfortunately, our primary process is a joke. The GOP already knows who they are going to run in 2016 and all other choices will be screwed.0 -

And yet you know a lot of Republicans are gonna be saying Romney lost because he wasn't conservative enough. Of course, I have to admit, his flipflopping to get himself conservative enough to win the primaries made him a weaker candidate than someone who was always that conservative, but the writing is still on the wall. The party has to reign in the far rights and run moderates if it is going to win a national race.0

Expressocyle has it right: Conservatives are going to double down and say that Romney lost because he's not conservative enough. Conservativism can never fail. It can only be failed.0

And that is why they will lose... again... if they keep this train of thought up... and honestly I don't believe it's "conservatism" as a whole that's the problem... it's the brand of conservatism that is being used.... Republicans need to let go of the social conservatism... That's the only way I will ever vote for them again... If they want to be constitutional conservatives... fine, but that means you must give people their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (yes, I know it's not in the constitution)... that means letting people express themselves as per the 1st amendment... whether that be gay, straight, christian, muslim, whatever... that means not infringing on people's 4th amendment rights because you are afraid of the big bad boogey terrorist.... and I can go on and on... but I won't.
What is funny to me, is there are Republican's here in Texas that are so for that Keystone pipeline, that they are willing to infringe on people's property rights and taking that property by way of eminant domain... last I checked that wasn't a Republican's ideal... but I guess it is now... it's no wonder, I am pretty much removing myself from the Republican's lately, except by way of voter registration... so I can vote in the primaries.0 -

Totally agree with everything you said here. Social conservatism is killing the party in this modern age. That being said, there are so few moderates left in the GOP that if they kick out the ultra-conservative base, they are likely to not win many elections in the immediate future either, because they'll be losing their base. They have really backed themselves into a corner with no immediate way out. If they want to survive as a party, they're going to have to take a hit in the short-term so they can survive in the long-term.What is funny to me, is there are Republican's here in Texas that are so for that Keystone pipeline, that they are willing to infringe on people's property rights and taking that property by way of eminant domain... last I checked that wasn't a Republican's ideal... but I guess it is now... it's no wonder, I am pretty much removing myself from the Republican's lately, except by way of voter registration... so I can vote in the primaries.
A lot of Republicans now don't really seem to have thought through much of these issues. A lot of conservative media is about talking points and taking large and complex issues down to a Powerpoint bullet. O'Reilly does this blatantly at the beginning of his show. To many, it's just black and white, no grey area. Reality lies in the grey, and almost nothing is truly black and white.0 -

Yup. It pains me to see what the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower has turned into. The current Republican party is so far away from it's ideals that it's not funny.0 -
The party founded on opposition to slavery now depends on the Southern white vote and gets 10% of the African-American vote.0

Heck, they are worlds away from the ideals they had just 20 years ago. They are against illegal immigration at the podium, but are the ones who employ them on their farms and in their mansions (rich dems are guilty as well), they want democracy to flourish in other countries (as long as that democray does what we want), the hate socialism (unless it is to bail out their own stupid buisness practices), they hate communism (unless they can upgrade their mansion to the manion deluxe by making extra money exporting our jobs to the COMMIES), respect miltary service (unless you don't have dumb political opinions as them, then you suck), hate draft dodgers (unless you are Mittens, Cheney, Limbaugh, Rush, Savage, O'Reily, John Wayne, and the list is almost endless), hate drug users (unless you are GWB, Rush, and I am sure many more), are for family values and hate extra marrital affairs (unless you are Newt Gingrich, then's it's ok that you left the Clinton impeachment hearings that were about him lying about his affair, only to go into the parking lot and get blown by his mistress while his wife was at home with cancer),
Oh, and this is a christian nation, all others need to know they are just guests here. Unless you are the 2012 Republican Nominee, then it's fine.
They think that socialized medicine is the worst thing on the planet, and then give to the veterans they supposedly love. Are pro-life for a fetus, but never seem to care much about actual living middle eastern children who get blown to pieces. As a matter of fact, there are a lot of un-adopted kids in this nation, I sort of figured the pro-lifers would have solved that by now. Strange.
And you had better not be lazy. Not in this country. You accept a hand out, you are scum, but then they don't seem to mind spending the VAST majority of our wealth in 186 miltary bases around the world protecting or installing their freedom. It's socialized freedom!0 -
Mitt Romney won the Presidential election.
He is now the President of the United States of Whitemen.
President Obama won single females by 36% over Romney--the largest gender gap in the history of Gallup polling.
Karen Hughes, former aide to George W, summed it up in Politico last Friday:If another Republican man says anything about rape other than it is a horrific, violent crime, I want to personally cut out his tongue.
Or another part--Hughes may be particular, but I'm not.0
