And I hope it continues to be the Republican dynamic nominating presidential candidates for the next twenty years!
I'm not sure I agree with this.
Having only one viable party in a two-party system eliminates the choice that a lot of voters like me really would like to have in presidential elections. The democratic party is the only party that is dealing in facts and acknowledging that we live in a modern and diverse society now.
I'd love to see the GOP get back on its feet, dump the hard-core conservative wing, embrace the 21st century, and start presenting reasonable fact-based policies instead of denying science, history, and economics and embracing these archaic religious concepts as policy. It would be nice to go to the polls and feel like I really am making a choice between two reasonable policies instead of just voting to keep the crazies out.
I have to agree... it's already bad enough we only have two "viable" options in the first place... let's not degrade the votes farther... thanks. Some of us more moderate voters are already disenfranchised enough. With crazies to the right of us and crazies to the left of us.... and a grand majority of them being chickenhawks.
I had to google "chickenhawk." Never heard that term used before.
I just don't like the people that are very pro-war who have no military experience (like you say, chickenhawks). It makes me think they don't really understand what war really means to the people serving on the ground or have any capacity to understand it. As a veteran's wife, those people scare me.
To your point though, I don't even seen the current GOP as viable long-term. They just are so out of touch with my generation with the anti-gay, anti-abortion, very few minorities in the party, "everyone who doesn't agree with us is a moocher" attitude, etc. The RNC this year looked like a parade of old white people. Just to be clear, I don't think most of those people are racists, but the GOP policies clearly don't appeal to a larger demographic like they should.
To me, the only choices I really get to make are in the democratic primaries where I get to choose which of the democratic candidates I feel would do a better job. I'd love to feel like that during an actual election.0 -

I think we are seeing the end of the GOP's Southern strategy that stems from the Civil Rights Act. Supposedly, LBJ said after signing the Act that they just handed the south to the GOP for a generation. That generation is almost up and the GOP has been ringing that bell the entire time without than coming up with new strategies. As Lindsey Graham said, "we are not generating enough angry white guys to stay in power."0 -

I agree... they did... well and young angry people that follow their old angry parents... Personally, I stay in the Republican party so I can vote for the REAL Republican's in the primaries... I did it with Debra Medina in our Gubernatorial primary, against Perry.... which she would have had a chance had Glenn Beck, the Libertarian imposter, hadn't called her a 9/11 conspiracy theorist and pretty much defamed her from there.... and I did it with Ron Paul (granted not the perfect GOP candidate either, as he definitely has his shortcomings... but he was better than nearly every other alternative as Johnson and Hunstman were already out of the game by the time we FINALLY had our primary... stupid redistricting... why did people have to migrate to our state?) anyway...
But I definitely agree, they are very much out of touch.... and they didn't used to be so far out of touch... but they have been increasingly so since the Neo-conservatives took over in the late 70's, early 80's.
And while I am not an advocate of state welfare (I truly believe that the communities can serve the people much better than the state ever could, but that's just based on my experience and my opinion)... and I do believe there are "moochers"... I don't believe all are this way and many are truly just trying to find help to get by. Also I strongly disagree with the whole "let's just build a fence" mentality too... it's not going to do anything productive at all.
Too bad it's not me that's running the GOP... I would be knocking some heads post haste.0 -

I'd consider voting for you if you ran0 -

Rock on!! :drinker:
I know that if I did ever get the bug up my butt to run... which isn't likely... I would do away with these silly social squabbles... People can hold onto whatever beliefs they wish about whatever they wish (I have many that are contrary to my political beliefs)... But it's goes against Liberty and Freedom to impose them on everyone that might believe otherwise.0 -

This is very true, and the crazy thing about it is that they've also pulled democrats more right as well. The modern democratic party is much more moderate than it was in the 1960's.0 -
Don't know if anyone will bother to look, but I was finally able to get Marley to stand still.0
