Personally I have enough ammo and rifles to last for years.
There is a brook running through the farm so water is no problem and plenty of wood for fires.

Where it gets dicey is gas and diesel to keep the generator running as well as tractors to grow food and get out firewood.
Also one has to remember that it is a universal problem so a thriving garden full of vegetables is probably going to attract attention so that would create a potential moral dilemma.

    Maybe for 2 months!

I have the inside fridge, outside fridge and deep freezer stocked and the pantry. After that, either I will be eating people or hunting the cats around the neighborhood.

If all goes to hell, you won't have any power to run your fridge and freezer. Also you will want to flee the cities ASAP and stake claim where one can live off natural resources.

But dont forget to hit your local gas station and raid all their beef jerky.. that stuff takes forever to go bad

How are you going to get to the gas station?? I hope you thought to have a car without a computer system.

My closest gas station is less than a mile....but, I'm not running a generator. That's a big ole target. I'm keeping all the lights out and staying quiet until it's time to head for the hills. But, raiding the gas station for slim jims was a good idea (thanks Jen!).

Considoring that I'm walking into the everglades (dont live far) I'll hit the gas station thats on the way. Its an even shorter distance if I happend to be at work when it all goes down

As long as a plane doesn't fall from the sky and hit me when the power goes out... I'd say my odds are 96% survival, it's all been worked out already.

    Someone has been watching Revolution!

I do like the show, but this has been worked out for awhile.

I thought the planes comment was a direct reference - but yeah I'm with you. Preparations are good to go. Anyone else have 72 hour kit in their cars for just in case you're not at home when things go down?
This topic makes me want to go get all my money out of the bank...LOL

Pro-tip: Money will be useless. Buy cigarettes to store as currency. Addicts will barter useful food/services for their fix.

That's a short-term plan when you and the Golden Hoard are all doing the same thing. Plants and wildlife will be eradicated in just a few weeks.

Kids and I are golden...I have go kits in several places. Enough ammo, money, food water and barterable goods to be set for a long time. Have scouted out plenty of places to set up camp that are easily defendable.

No plan is perfect but I have a better then 70% solution with plenty of COA's for variables and decision points sketched out in advance. A lifetime in the infantry certainly doesnt hurt either.

It's a longer term plan then going to the gas station.

I have hunting land in Northern Minnesota that butts up to over 100 acres of state land that the state will no longer need. Also with in one mile of Lake Milacs the biggest and largest stocked lake in Minnesota. I'm armed to the tooth and have two classic cars sitting in my garage (not mine, but I will be taking them) that don't run on computer systems. I'm a part owner of that land with 15 life long buddies all hunters and trades men of different nature. There is one highway into town from the cities that can easily be controlled.

Also to our advantage is the fact that we can survive cold weather... most people will be headed to a warmer climate.

Now most of this is just coincidence but we have had some drunken convo's at the hunting shack and have a pretty general plan on how we all get up there and set up... and then obviously pirate all you unprepared people.

Honestly...you aren't all kidding? Stockpiles of ammo and go kits? Really? Is this an American thing...or has the rize in zombie popularity actually made you contemplate end of world scenarios?

I might have half an old earthquake kit somewhere here..some bandaids and a couple of water bottles..

I consider ammo to be my best pushup bra and a go kit to contain lip gloss, taxi money and a condom. Should I grow up now and start contemplating my inevitable demise?

The idea is that if you prepare for a zombie outbreak, you are prepared for anything. While I think the likelihood of total collapse of society within my lifetime is pretty low, I do live in an earthquake state. So if the earthquake doesn't kill me, I have prepared with stockpiles of food, protection and shelter for me and my animals.

Then, if there is a complete collapse I'm prepared too - however unlikely. It's also fun to plan out :)

Pretty sure I'd be trading sex for food in no time...or as I like to call it...a regular Saturday night date.

    JOKING!!

Still in bed..my appropriate humor filter isn't on yet..
Between Patrick Kane (blah), politics and end of the world scenarios..I feel like we haven't fought about feminism in like a couple days! Someone start a sexy new topic... and by that I mean make it about sex...lol

I'm stocking up on spaghettios and waiting for the end of the world. The sex better be damned good or I'm not sharing!

Naw... don't do anything special. Everything will always be okay, and if there was a major disaster, your gubment has got you covered.

I'm with you...so NOT an American thing. Interesting to think about with Carl bringing it up, but I can't say I have any true plans. Then again, as he said there is a difference between a financial collapse and an end of the world scenario.

My plan is a combo of stuff I happen to have plus a lot of drunken conversations at a hunting shack.... I don't think anyone is counting on this happening, but it's fun to think about.

With all of the disasters we've had in VA in the last couple years, and few to depend on in the local area, I've started to develop minor plans. I have my 2 week water supply, as well as non-perishables, first aid supplies and bug out bags. My prior soldier skills have stuck, and I'm just one of those people that would rather be ready than have to be dependent on someone else. Especially when I have 2 little ones that depend on me.

I could probably make it 2-3 weeks. I try to keep enough dry goods on hand - over a month's worth but right now I only have 10 gallons of water stocked. I'm probably more prepared than my neighbors, I guarantee you that.... but I've always been one to think ahead. You just never know.....

Long before talk of the zombie apoclyapse my friends and I have been having various end of the world convesations , zombies are just the newest one. Plus long before Katrina and Sandy was a little storm called Hurricane Andrew... I was 12 and our family had to survive on basically what we had for about a week. Homestead was completely destroyed. Alot of people were hunting in the everglades and having large BBQ's just to feed everyone. So yeah theres a reason some of us are kinda prepared.

I have no firearms and no food supply however I do know how to live off the land just haven't done it in a LONG LONG time. So I would hope that I have enough gas to get to my brothers house in Northern Arizona. He has the family guns and fishing equipment that we all used as kids to learn about hunting and fishing.

Yes, it is (mostly) an american thing.
It's for people who have too much time and money on their hands. It's fun stuff to do though.
I'm under the impression that there are 1000 more vital skills to learn (right now) like knowing how to buy a house properly to prevent you and your family from being evicted and contributing to the financial crisis that will lead to the said apocalypse (although, this is admittedly not nearly as fun).

If it ever comes down to catastrophic scenarios, I would be as worried about "possessing" anything of value as not possessing anything, because it would make you a primary target for anyone without anything to live on, who has nothing to lose (and that would be a lot of people).

I'm saying that it is for people who have too much time and money on their hands, as this is everyday life for some people in our world.
For examples of people surviving with guns in a world without food, water and electricity, you can just look at the poorest parts of Africa to see what it's like.

    not very long at all.
Same here. If anything, it would help me get off this mini plateau.
I'm going to join your group. I hate guns, but I do have a long handled axe in my garage my Dad bought for me. Guess I could use it to chop wood / build a fire. I'm thinking I would be stocking up on some primo alcohol to share and barter. My city lost our water supply in 1994 for 12 days, and although I was a bit stinky, I survived just fine.

All hobbies be boiled down to that simple definition. Playing the guitar, playing golf, drawing, reading fiction novels - unless you are doing those things professionally it's just something for you to spend your time and money on because it's enjoyable.

Which is why no survival kit is complete until you have guns and ammo. Someone wants to take my things? Looks like I'm having bacon for breakfast.

I am Mormon. So, yes :-) I will survive. Like I said before, I want to be as self reliant as i possibly can.
For those who don't know, LDS members TYPICALLY ( not always) have stock piled food, money, water, supplies, etc. I have 72 hr emergency bags in my car for all 6 of us that include whatever we would need for 3 days.

There is SOOOOOO much more I can be and should be ( and hopefully will be) doing though!!!! :-)

and for me ( and most members of the church) it has NOTHING to do with something like the zombie apocalypse. it has to do with job loss, illness, death of a breadwinner, natural disasters like hurricanes, and even being ready for a terrorist attack........
