Any Navy wives ever attend a Christmas party before? My husband bought tickets for a Christmas party in December. I'm not sure if it's formal or what I should wear to it. It's supposed to be at a local hotel.

Also wondering if anyone has ever attended a car auction for abandoned vehicles on base. Or know anyone that won a car? I'm just curious how the process works and how much one might have to bid to win an abandoned vehicle not guaranteed to work?

Thanks!

Last year I went to the Navy Christmas party at the local hotel. The dress attire was formal, but the sailors didn't have on their dress blues or anything. The ladies had on formal dresses. I just wore a nice shirt and slacks. There was another party next door to ours and they were having fun! If you don't have a formal dress, I would worry to much about it unless you really want to wear one. Just wear something nice and comfortable.

I never attended a car auction on base so I don't have an answer for that.

The party we went to (local hotel/casino) was semi formal. So women wore nice (not ballgowns) dresses or nice slacks and tops. The men wore dress shirt and tie. Definitely what the other poster said about comfort. Ours had a ton of speakers and some activities the first 2 hours. I was very glad I wore comfortable heels and outfit! LOL
Can't help you on the car auction- sorry!

I went to my husbands first boats Christmas party. I wore a black dress to the knee. IT was at a hotel. Most people wore something like that nothing too fancy but a little black dress type of party. Then there were a few that under dressed lol

I've been to a Navy Ball before! In my mind it was the equivalent to dressing up for a high school dance. Not as dressy as prom, but dress nice!
  • My best suggestion is always dress to complement what your hubs is wearing. If they are in dress uniforms, then a classy cocktail dress or evening gown should be worn, if they are in a shirt and tie, a fun party dress is great. We have had dinning out's for our last few parties and the guys are in dinner dress, which is black-tie, so, it was like grown-up prom. The biggest thing to remember is always air on the side of modesty, I have seen some totally inappropriately dressed spouses over the years; this is a work function after all! Good luck!

christmas party= semi formal. Think of like sadies hawkins dance, or really nice slacks, blouse and heels. Other than that don't show up in jeans or a t-shirt, they USUALLY will not let you in.

Christmas party = semi-formal for most commands. A cocktail dress, or dress pants and a nice top would be perfect. If you work in a business-casual environment chances are you can even wear clothes you would normally wear to work (on a dressier day) and be fine. I usually wear one of my 800 LBD's.

Navy Ball=Formal, knee-length cocktail dresses would be the least formal thing you would want to wear

We usually attend the Christmas parties every year and they are semi-formal or cocktail party attire. This year, the party is a bit more casual for us because they are doing an ugly Christmas sweater contest.
