Long before spotify, there was this site called http://www.last.fm.
It was/is a great way to discover new music that suited your tastes (it makes recommendations based on what you listen to) and scrobble your music.
Nowadays it costs money to stream music from last.fm, but the difference is last.fm isn't limited to what is popular (unlike spotify). Anyway if anyone has a last.fm account to share music tastes and maybe find new bands (recommending music based off what you listen to is still something it does well) feel free to add me:
