Hip pain/soreness

I have been doing strong lift for the last 4 weeks. I have been working with a trainer for the last 3 weeks because I tend to have bad form and I feel more comfortable having a trainer to make sure my form is getting better.

last Monday while doing squats I noticed when I went deep my squats I have a ache/pain in my hips. I didn't have the pain while doing anything else, just squatting. I tried doing weight free squats and I had the same pain. I didn't exercise on Tuesday and tried again on Wednesday and the same pain/ache. So i decided to skip squats on my Friday session and do other exercises. The only thing I did from strong lifts was dead lifts. No lifting again until yesterday.

I lifted yesterday and it was less sore/painful. Today as I sit and type this my hips are sore.

I say pain/sore because it feels like a combo of the 2 sore/pain going down and sore going up. Today was the first day I have felt sore in that area.

Has anyone had this? Will it go away? Should I modify my workouts?

I really don't want to lose the strength have already gained! I was sure I couldn't squat the bar with any exercise when I started this and now I squat 100lbs and dead lift 125lb. The other exercises have not gone up as much, but they are going up!

Thanks guys!

My husband got it a lot in the beginning. It s pretty common. Look up stretches for tight hips or hip flexors. Generally you can mitigate it by some very dedicated stretching and foam rolling in the beginning. After a month or two my husband stopped having it be an issue, but the tightness was very painful in the beginning.

I just looked it up and that is what my trainer had me do yesterday. I made it feel better. So did he just do that before a work out or more than that?

Yep, what Tameko said, the hip flexors are a weak point for most of us, me included, just did more stretches and more bodyweight squats as warm ups as well as holding the squat stance wide-legged for half a minute or so. I do not get it anymore.

This makes me feel so much better. I have never had pain/soreness in this location so I did not know what to think!

He just did it before a workout - frankly he probably would have gotten better faster if he'd stretched daily.

Happy to read I'm not the only one with hip soreness. It isn't horrible but is a reminder that I've started something new. I will start doing more stretches and see how that helps. Thanks!
