    You mean this?

    Thanks for the recommendation!

I had never heard of the event before but it looks really cool so I think I may sign up. I just hope the weather is as decent as possible for Jan 1st
  • The fleece looks kind of decent. Plus if you look at last years 5k results, 2-1 women to men.

Come to one or both! Due to weather concerns I would start with the 5k on Dec 1st and take it from there

I have yet to run a 5k myself. If I do the Polar Dash, that will be my first. What better way to start than on the first day of the year? I don't drink, so I won't have any hangover problems. :-)

I'm doing the Reindeer Run 5k on 12/1 (Lake Harriet), but I have some coworkers doing the Mustache Run! Looks like a good time.

Polar Dash is a Team Ortho race...Team Ortho registrations are a little spendier on average I think, but they have really great swag. If you'd like to save a couple bucks, you could commit to 5 Team Ortho races for 2013 & only pay for the 4 most expensive ones. They have a variety of distances from 5k all the way up to full marathon. For those of you looking to start running 5ks, it's a good way to commit!!! Pick a few 5ks, the 7k in March (which I plan to do), & maybe a 10k if you're up for it. The bonus of taking advantage of this deal by 12/15 is the one free race plus you get a cool lucite holder for all 5 of your medals. I saw it when Team Ortho came to the year-end thing for my running club. It's pretty slick!

Jesse, if you do decide to run the Polar Dash, make sure you get at least a couple of training runs done outdoors first! It's really the only way to figure out the correct way to dress, because your body temp changes so much within the first mile or two. Plus treadmill is no match for the road. Different muscles are engaged on & off the treadmill.
  • I have yet to run anywhere but outside, and don't plan on changing any time soon. :-)

Thanks for the tip on their races. I'll check in to that.

Woo hoo! I'll be there with some coworkers. I'll have on a bright pink running jacket (the one in my profile pic) with a grey shirt over top that says Running Club in red across the back. Pink headband, black pants, bright pink shoes. Please stop me to say hi if you see me!!! I always love meeting fellow MFPeeps in real life.

There's no law saying you have to run the whole thing. If you want to do it, do it! I suspect you're ready to run at least most of it. But if you're like me, you want to be able to run your very first 5k straight through without walking so I understand.

I like the route of the Reindeer run better. Unfortunately I did not find out about it until after I signed up for the Moustache Run:(

For a moment I thought about doing both (until I realized they were at basically the same time in the morning)

On the plus side, all runners receive a free drink (and stocking cap) after the Moustache Run according the the Living Social Deal:)

Have fun at the Reindeer Run!

Have fun at Moustache run! I was going to sign up for that one, because I wanted to wear a fake moustache, but the ladies I run with talked me into the Reindeer Run. Always seems like the races I'm interested are on the same day!

Good luck with your races, everyone!

Thanks. I was nervous about running outside vs the treadmill, due to the cold and pacing issues but feel much better after today! I ran 5k outside in the cold for the first time as practice and my gps enabled running app kept me on my treadmill pace perfectly and the 30 degree temperature was not bad at all once I started to run.

Now I feel much better about the Jan 1st Polar Dash as well!

I second the comments about not being ready. We only race against ourselves. There is nothing wrong with having to walk a portion of your first 5k
