Newbie: weights and other things.

I have been lifting the bar for the last week. Yesterday I bought 2x2.5,2x5,6x10. I had figured out what I would need to increase by five but I didn't know they didn't sell 20 lb weights, they only sell 25lb so I figured more 10's would give me more flexibility so I wouldn't have to go up so fast. I guess the problem is that the bar will not be high enough off the floor with the 10 lb weights. I plan to raise the bar on something. Does this make sense to you?
50=45 +2.5+2.5
55=45+5+5
60=45+5+5+2.5+2.5
65=45+10+10
70=45+10+10+2.5+2.5
75=45+10+10+5+5
80=45+10+10+5+5+2.5+2.5
85=45+10+10+10+10
90=45+10+10+10+10+2.5+2.5
95=45+10+10+10+10+5+5
100=45+10+10+10+10+5+5+2.5+2.5

My next snag will seem silly but I have been lifting the bar without the rings that hold the weights on! I think I may have to add those rings next week and start lifting the real weights the week after! I put them on yesterday and the bar seemed really heavy!

We went to the Paul McCartney concert on Thursday and were up really late for us and I have been eating all kinds of carbs I don't usually eat. I feel weaker than normal. Have you experienced this? I guess my body likes the pure living and is rebelling!

I am so excited about having the weights but i am determined to stick with my monday, wednesday, friday plan so I will have to wait until tomorrow. We usually run on sundays. have any of you noticed if running on your off days effects your lifting? I really like to run and do the elliptical but my priority right now is to get strong. Doesn't getting strong include being able to run? What do you guys think about cardio on top of the cardio of lifting?

    I think most of us do cardio plus strength, we would get bored otherwise...I cycle everywhere (so up to 3 hours every day) and run when I can and also have started boxing for half an hour twice a week...it does not affect my strength training.

    Thank you so much! After reading the SL stuff he makes it sound like it makes lifting harder! Happy to hear it isn't so!

    I would still get 25's and 45's... I would probably skip the 35's .... It's easier to do deadlifts and rows with bigger plates... of course you could just buy what you need for now (which is probably just 10's and under) and when you get to where you need 25 pound plates, go and buy 2.

    So what weights do you have? 2 of each 2.5, 5, 10, 25, 45?

    I'd get 4 tens and 2 of all the others.

    but that's me, one of my warm up sets on squats is always 85 lbs, so that's 4 tens and the bar.
