I am not usually a watcher of the royal family, but it was announced earlier today that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (a/k/a Prince William and Kate Middleton) are expecting a baby. I guess they were not planning on sharing the news this early, since reportedly she is not yet 12 weeks pregnant, but she is suffering from acute morning sickness (poor thing) and has been hospitalized (or hospitalised for the non-Americans).

The article I read mentioned that hyperemesis "sometimes indicates twins." Because there isn't enough pressure on them already.

Anyway, I am happy for them but hope she feels better soon. That has got to be doubly miserable to feel that sick yet be stuck in the spotlight. I definitely do not envy her as she goes through her pregnancy "in public" like this.

What would your advice be to them?

Hyperemesis Gravidarum sucks... I had it with my first pregnancy and it's awful. I'm glad that she is being monitored in the hospital though - dehydration is dangerous and all to common with HG. It's usually diagnosed once you lose a certain percentage of body weight because you aren't keeping anything down, which severly limits baby's ability to get the proper nutrients. Luckily they are in a position to get the health care she needs and that baby will be watched very closely. I hope it clears up for her soon - but HG generally doesn't start to clear up until at least 20 weeks.

I had it my whole pregnancy and I puked 3 times during labor and once right after delivery! I'm three months right now and puke about 3x a day...nastiness. It isn't fun, that's for sure! I'm sure there's a lot of pressure to make sure she's doing everything 100% by-the-book so that the baby comes out perfect...as if first-time moms aren't nervous enough! Hopefully they let her have lots of spa days and reduce her public responsibilities!

Interesting that it can 'sometimes indicate twins' because my nausea was very manageable during my twin pregnancy. It was actually much worse during this (singleton) pregnancy!

I was just offended for them that, in the article I read from the UK Telegraph site, there was speculation about *where* the baby was conceived. Who cares?! I know it comes with living in the spotlight, but seriously, people, get a life! :grumble:

Ew, really? I don't want anyone thinking of the conception of my children, thanks.

I hate the fact that I'm obsessed with Kate! Ugh.. Yes- I'm secretly obsessed with the royal couple.

I'm a little surprised by the fact that Kate managed to get pregnant in the first place! I hate to point this out, but Kate was quite underweight in the first year after her wedding and most likely did not have her period anymore. I haven't been following the tabloids to see whether she got more meat on her bones in the past 8 months, but I would imagine that she would have had to gain some weight in order to get pregnant.... or they may have done "in vitro" fertilization to help her out.... which could possibly well lead to a twin pregnancy!

Being pregnant is hard enough without having to do it in the international spotlight! There are just some things that a family should be able to keep to themselves. I wish the whole family the best of luck and hope they can at least get some moments where they aren't hounded by the press. Oh, and please, I don't need to know where they conceived....
