I use a Garmin 705. I have been using that model for almost two years and have replaced it, under warranty, twice. I like the idea of upgrading to the 800 and I think the 900 would be even better. But, I have a serious issue with paying that much money with the thought of it not being any more reliable that my 705. I would hate to pay $600+ and continue to have problems that I constantly had to talk to tech support about. Given that they nice automotive GPS units are half that price, it seems the bicycle units should be cheaper than they are. Just my opinion.0

IMO, forget about a new head unit, and throw some resources behind the Vector Pedals instead... they've been "coming soon" since around september 2011...
I'm not holding my breath, personally - I AM however getting a little interested in the prospect of the Stages Cycling powermeter - http://www.stagescycling.com/stagespower... of course, they'll have to actually ship some working product, then actually choose to support the rest of the world, not just the USA...0 -
I doubt there'll be enough improvement over the 800 to entice me. I got a bit giddy too and bought the OS map edition, so it still owes me a lot of navigating!0

all that, and not one feature I'd care about over my 800.0

Stop it, stop it, stop it. I'm just now getting a 500.0

I have the 500 and would not want to chase after the 800 or the 900 just for navigation features. Few times do I ride and need directions. Love my 500 with the HRM/speed/cadence.0 -

That's all I really need. Plus if/when I get an Ant+ power meter it will give me that too.0 -
I didn't think the 500 had enough data fields visible for use with power. I'm also a big data junkie though.
I hated that about the original Little Yellow Computer from Powertap, so I embraced the Joule 2.0 as soon as it came out.0 -

The 500 has plenty of data fields. I have mine set up to scan quickly through 3 pages so my data fields are larger and easier to see.0 -

Not for me, it doesn't. Like I said, data junkie (also, I don't want to be fiddling with screens in a group ride and I already used up all the screens for different ride types)
I miss the in-ride analysis that the Joule 2,0 had (which showed best power for several durations for that ride and compared them against the last 2 weeks of riding)... I've thought about carrying both.... I know, I need help....0 -

You probably know this I am sure but the screens scan automatically and set to fast scan you can view data on all screens in a couple of seconds. I, too, would like to add a power meter.0 -

To me that's even worse. Now I have to stare at the screen and wait for what I want to cycle through 5 other screens that I don't care about.
Not a good idea when you''re in a pack, near joggers, on an open road, or pretty much any other time you need to avoid running over something or someone.
After three years with a power meter, I think it's among the best training investments I've ever made, but it requires some analysis to get anything out of it. It you're not willing to do the data crunching (or pay a coach to do it for you), it's not going to yield much of a return.0
