Christmas in Minnesota.

Trying to develop some traditions for my kids. The only tradition we have is one I brought over from England; we have fish and chips on Christmas Eve. ._.

I'm interested in knowing what Minnesota has to offer during this season. Theater productions? Choirs? Parades? I want to get into the festive spirit and I don't know where to start!

  • We just went and saw The Grinch @ the Childrens Theatre - it was so good! Also, maybe check out the Hollidazzle Parade. That's always fun too (unless it's insanely windy and frigid).

The Holidazzle and Macys 8th floor are great MN traditions for sure

The Childrens theaters are great - also the Ordway has Elf this year and always the Nutcracker

    This might help

We Irish up some coffee and take the kids sledding, at a local hill.

How about this for a new MN Christmas tradition? Take the family and run the Christmas Day 5k!

  • Not sure exactly when it is but the Winter Carnival in St. Paul looks like fun. I personally have yet to go as hubby isn't a big fan of being outdoors in winter.

Love the Katamari image on your ticker.

Decorate Christmas cookies, go sing carols at the VA or a nursing home, Hollidazzle has been mentioned. I hate the cold so we never go but I hear great things. Go sledding or ice skating or snowshoeing together as a family. :flowerforyou:

Winter Carnival is usually in mid-late January when it's REALLY cold. :)

5k beer running tour on Dec 22nd or 29th
Anyone else think this might be fun for the holidays (for adult family/friends)?

The review I read for it on Trip Advisor seem to be pretty good!
  • Check out Riverview theater. They usually have a classic christmas movie playing and their prices are really afforable. I second the comments for the holidazzle and Macy's 8th floor downtown MPLS.

I love seeing the British Television Advertising (now called the Arrow) Awards at the Walker every December. They really aren't too kid friendly, though.
I took my niece to Steppingstone Theater to see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which was cute. I haven't been but, my parents take the nieces to lake Phalen for the drive through lights. They love that.
The Nutcracker at the Cowles Center is supposed to be really good. Also, people love A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie but that isn't really my thing, so I don't know firsthand.

If you are anywhere near Duluth, you MUST come to Bentleyville! This awesome Christmas display is worth the drive....check out their website for times and festivities!

The Guthrie Theater always has The Christmas Carol. It is usually one of the best productions of it in the US.

I think I will volunteer to feed food to the homeless on Christmas. What better way to celebrate the holidays?
