Hello everyone. I am a 31 year old mother of 5 and a wife. I am about 58 lbs over weight and need some support. I have tried dieting several times and always end up giving up. My problem is that I'm inpatient and a quitter. I get frusturated because we are financially tight and when we do have money to go shopping for food, i have to get the most for what I have and that is usually all the crap. All rice, pasta's, top ramen, ect. All of the whole foods are so expensive. Any tips would be much appreciated. My co worker is giving me her elliptical so I am going to start using that 1/2 hour a day and using my arm weights for 1/2 hour. Thank you

Ive read that it takes 90 days to get into a habit. So, hang in there!!
Im starting to go to the gym myself. Im going to shoot for 90 days, and hopefully Ill get into the swing of things before then.
About the grocery shopping: I understand where youre coming from.
bags of frozen veggies are usually pretty cheap. When buying meats, whole meats (not pre-chopped) are cheapest.
A bag of beans costs very little for the amount of food you get. Same thing with rice.
You just have to shop around, really.
I actually planted a veggie garden last spring and froze most of my bounty. That has really saved us!
Just one seed costs a few cents, and youve got loads of veggies.
Have you ever heard of Skinnytaste.com? Its a WONDERFUL blog of normal dishes that are re-vamped to have lower calories than the original recipe.
I LOVE that site. Check it out!
I hope that helps. If you need any motivation, or even just someone to be accountable to, let me know!!
I need ideas on stuff and motivation too.
Like I said - 90 days!! You can do it!0 -
Thank you so much! Geez, I almost got teary eyed just reading your positive response. I want this so bad. Thank you again. I will keep the frozen veggies in mind. My brother made a good point, he said when I go grocery shopping, to stay away from the middle of the grocery store and only buy from the outer part of the store. I will check out that website right now:) Thanks again!0

I understand the financial side of things COMPLETELY! I don't know if you have a winco where you live or not, but that is my favorite place to shop for food! (always really long lines, but cheap food!) And I try to budget myself to $10.00 a day (it's just me) chich means when I go grocery shopping & spend $70.00 I have to wait 7 days before I allow myself to eat fast food again. (which I some how always convince myself is cheaper...) I will second that even though it is more up front, that buying meat in bulk is the cheapest way to go by pound. And learn how to cook whole chickens! And if at all possibly have a garden! Plus if you buy fresh veggies and what not, you have to eat them more because they will go bad! good luck! like I said, I completely understand money is tight. But on the other hand, Don't be tempted (* I know it sounds dumb, but i see it happening ALL THE TIME!) to get angry with your family for the lack of funds. I promise you that you are happier being poor with them, then being rich without them. Good luck with everything! I hope you accomplish what you set out to do!0
