Eating before WOD

Hey everyone..
i am fairly new to crossfit, and about over a month into paleo. Loving both :) I typically attend the 9am WOD 5x a week. I find its hard at this time to figure out what to eat, because I am usually not very hungry, and def don't want to eat something too heavy, as I would for sure puke it up at the 9am class... I am now starting to have a post wod protein shake ( much better b/c before I would have an iced coffee and that basically held me down till about 12 pm ).. so basically i have rotated between an apple with almond butter or a few eggs. I have a 1 year old to get ready in the am so the fastest is easiest for me :)

Tks

A hard boiled egg is a nice quick and easy.
There are some that suggest working out 8-10 hour fasted is best for fat loss and muscle gains. (others will absolutely tell you that is stupid) I tend to lean toward fasted workouts but then again, I am not glucose dependent because I made the switch to paleo.

(google leangains or lyle mcdonald if you care about the "who").
Both do recommend BCAA's if working out fasted.

I just started doing crossfit but before I was seeing a personal trainer who did cf/bootcamp style trainings. Our sessions were at 10am. The first time I went and worked out in over 4 years I decided to have seattles best coffee before hand.... that came back up during the second round. Now I know that for me personally food/coffee makes me nauseous during a WOD. I might have a spoonful of almond/sunbutter or a boiled egg or two, but thats it. I also do a post WOD protein shake. I have a 3yr old and a 5mo old so I get the need for something quick and easy. My 3yr old will only eat bacon and pancakes for breakfast though. So if I plan to do a WOD that morning I usually wake up before the rest of the house hold, cook breakfast and leave it in the microwave for hubs and the 3yr old, while I go do my WOD.

For about 2 years I did not eat before working out at either 6 or 7 am. I found that I would sometimes (but not always) get distracting hunger pains so now I eat the same thing every morning before I WOD. 1/4 cup of cottage cheese (no it's not paleo), 3 almonds and 1/4 of a medium sized apple. It is only a few bites but it gets me through that first few hours until I get home and have a proper meal.

I usually go at 5:30am, so I don't eat before. I think unfortunately it has to be personal preference because I read so many articles on what you should or shouldn't eat before workout and how long and etc etc etc....it's crazyness. I have a post-WOD shake. When I was running I'd go with half a banana or something but even that would bug me.

For hockey I have a cutoff of three hours before I get on the ice, anything less than that I'll feel like I'm going to yak during the game, whereas some other people I know can down a cheeseburger and fries in the locker room before taking the ice and be totally fine, so I imagine it would just be a similar concept as to what you can handle/need.

I am a 5:30AM CrossFitter - I usually eat 1/2 a banana and drink some of my bulletproof coffee on my way to CrossFit. Then I finish the coffee afterwards - I can't drink my coffee very hot anyway. If I don't have bananas on hand, I will eat a spoonful of peanut butter or a few almonds; I just feel like I need a little something in me!

I do a 6am crossfit (just started, so it barely counts), and before that it was a 6am boot camp thing.

The first time I did boot camp, I ate an apple before and puked.
If I drink coffee, I get really bad indigestion with plyo stuff.

I now just drink warm tea on the way there, water while I'm there, and tea on the way home.

Eating a couple hundred calories before I go is a MUST (I'm 219lbs though). I found a bit of carbs really helps too. So something like a handful of almonds and a piece of whole grain toast is good for me (I don't eat many grains, but before workouts I've found it really handy). My lunch is like at 10:30 and then I don't get to eat again until right before I go to the box at 4:30 so my schedule is a little unique. Any bad day I've had at the box usually is food related.
