Weight loss affecting supply?

for the past few days ( since becoming more strict with my calories actually) I've noticed that my milk supply has been significantly lower. Eating at the calories suggested by mfp doesn't help me loose weight so I started following the old weight watchers program and then had problems but did drop a few lbs. last night I had a cheat with some junk food and then I had a good supply again. anyone else have this issue and find the right balance?

Yikes! I haven't eaten less than 1800 calories (net 1300 after i add breastfeeding), I don't want to chance hurting my supply!0

Hi!
I think we are all a bit different in terms of how many calories we need to keep a good supply going.
I find that 2000 per day works really well for me. I still lose weight and I don't feel like I'm running out of milk. If I go lower than 1800 I feel like I'm not making enough, especially in the evening.
If you are dedicated to breastfeeding, keeping your supply up is important. You need extra calories. How much are you eating? Could you be trying to lose the weight too quickly?
Hope you find your magic number!0 -
What did you have MFP set to? I set mine to 1/2 lb per week deficit, because I didn't want to risk my supply. I am slowly losing.0

My lactation consultant told me to stay at 2100 cal per day or try to because it is alot of food. I am losing but just have to make sure that I eat the good stuff and not junk food. Although my supply never was really plentiful and it is starting to slowly dry up already. I have always had to supplement.0

Thanks, I was set to 1840 and with breastfeeding cals added I was at 2340 cals allowed per day, I guess I'll just play around with the cals to see what works best for me0

I totally understand -if I go below 3000 calories my milk supply drops. I'm four months post-partum and exclusively pump so I know that I go from making enough to freeze 14 oz. a day to needing to thaw out milk if I eat the recommend 2300 (with the 500 per day extra allowance )0
