This time of the year is when a huge percentage of the American populace decides to change the way they look and feel. They join fitness clubs, start exercise programs, buy vitamins.....it's a real boom time of year for the health industry.
Then reality sets in and they begin to question their motives and make excuses to NOT continue on their newly discovered path to good health.
Why do WE do that??? What is it that makes us stop and start year after year determined to "really do it this time"? Well, here are a few tips to help you start and continue a new healthier lifestyle.
1. Set a goal for yourself. Not based on how someone else looks or how someone else wants you to look. The goal should be YOUR goal. Don't set that goal so high that it's unattainable or unrealistic. But on the other hand, don't set your goal so low that it is not going to make the change you desire.
2. Begin NOW!! Don't put it off till tomorrow. Don't wait till you have an exercise buddy or till you purchase that gym membership or till you get the right exercise clothes.......don't wait for anything.
3. Set you mind on making a lifetime change! If you just plan on working out or getting healthy till you reach a specific weight goal and then stop, guess what happens??? You fall right back into the same habits that got you where you are now. Make it a life goal.
4. Don't overdo it! Whatever the plan you have for workouts, weight lifting, running, cardio or strength training.....don't overdo it! More people quit because they hurt themselves trying to do too much too quickly. Your body needs adequate time to adjust to the new routine so take it slow at first! Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Push it a little but don't hurt it!
5. Be accountable!! Find someone to share your successes and failures with. Someone you trust, someone who will be an encourager to help you get through those times you want to quit!!
