I really liked "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy.

She had a funny, honest approach to describing what her body went through, it was kind of like hearing about pregnancy from a sister or a friend.

_What to Expect When You're Expecting_ is a good stand-by - everyone seems to like it. A little too dense for me to sit and read like a novel, but it was a good reference.

_The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy_ is also really good. The author is not a medical professional, so it's very readable and humorous. I recommended it to someone else recently and was looking at the Amazon reviews, and apparently a bunch of people got upset over the fact that she was supposedly putting down moms who don't get epidurals and basically calling them smug. I didn't get that feeling when I read it, but if you don't get sensitive about that (the author is obviously pro-epidural), then it's a good, quick, easy read.

There's a book called The Baby Owner's Manual. It was written by a guy and his dad who is a doctor. It actually reads like an owners manual for a car. I bought it for my husband when we were pregnant with our first. It's really funny the way it's written but it turned out to be very helpful. We used it quite a bit.

I know a couple of women who were going to tough it out and, when they finally got the epidural, said, "WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS EARLIER?" I do know some that stuck it out, though, and thankfully very few of them were smug about it. We all get a baby in the end  Unfortunately the few smug people are just that way about everything they do for childbearing/rearing, so I just roll my eyes privately and stay away from them.

I want to check out that Owner's Manual book now!
