Checking in and a question

Hi everyone, how are you doing on this plan?

I was thrilled the first few days when I lost 4 lbs., but since then my weight has stayed exactly the same. I've been doing it exactly one week today. I'm not complaining at all, because 4 pounds is fantastic, but it's frustrating to not see the scale move at all after the first loss after the first few days. I've been exercising a LOT, so I was hoping for more results on the scale. Maybe I should stop weighing myself everyday, but I'm kind of an addict about that, LOL!

I mentioned before that I'm a WW Lifetime member (8 yrs) and I have to weigh-in tomorrow. I'm up over my goal weight a few pounds and don't want to have to pay at weigh-in tomorrow! I LOVE this plan and way of eating. It really goes in line with WW and I will continue to go to my weekly meetings for support and recipe ideas. The reason I'm on the CTL plan is to lose the 10-15 pounds that I never lost after hitting my goal, which was at the very top of my weight range for WW. Anyway, my initial loss was 53 lbs, so I know how hard it is to be overweight and frustrated with your body.

Has anyone tried the protein oatmeal that is in the book? I've tried it now and it's so runny. Is there something I might be doing wrong? Maybe you are not supposed to used cooked oatmeal, but raw and then add the water and cook? Could there be a mistake in the book?

I hope everyone has a GREAT day! :flowerforyou:

I saw the recipe in the book and wondered the same thing. I eat oatmeal with whey on a normal basis but always just made it with water. once i had cooked oatmeal I mix in a scoop of when and any additional milk needed. That way it stayed as thick as i like it.

I just started today so I don't know how it is going quite yet. It was odd to eat low carb without the full fats i am used too.

    Congrats on your 4 lbs!!!

I may not even weigh weekly. I'm not sure yet.

I too had success on the plan at first. Then Christmas came and I gained back what I lost. But now I just can't seem to lose just staying the same. I'm wondering if I need to adjust my calories. I'm only 1200 on lc and then 1500 on high carb.

    Not really sure.

I haven't done the slingshot yet so I think I will do that next week and see.

Today is day 3 & I'm still adjusting to it, trying to figure it all out, but I think I'm following it pretty good. I've felt quite full each day & I've been having a hard time eating everything. I'm gonna keep on keeping on & see how it goes. I've been exercising alot too, so I hope to see some results. Let's keep each other updated as we go!!!

I'm great! Thanks for asking! ;-) I restarted this week, and am feeling really good about my decision to recommit. See my blog post for more details (so I don't have to retype it all out): http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/babeinthemoon/view/back-on-track-day-1-467322

Okay, here's the deal. If you weigh your self every day, you will be driven mad by this diet. LOL! The morning after a HC day you'll often either show a smaller loss, or a gain, and the morning after a LC day you'll usually show a loss. Forget weighing the day after a fun day... especially if you eat up to the 2400 calories that Chris recommends you don't go over in the book. You'll for sure be up. I know because I've weighed almost every day since June.

The difference is though that for my "daily" weighs I track it in a free website called "weight commander" (http://www.weightcommander2.com/). During the week, if I'm discouraged by my loss I can chose to look at my numbers for only one day of the week. When I do that I usually show a loss from one wednesday to the next.. even if "today's" weight is higher than "yesterday's."

So, I only post on mfp my "weigh day" weights. It works for me.

Okay, so if Thursday is your weigh day, I'd recommend that Wednesday be a LC day, and that Thursday or Friday be your fun day (staturday at the lastest). I've found that if I really make "fun day" fun, and eat between 200-2400 calories, it takes me 3-4 days to show a loss over the previous "weigh day." but then the next few days I tend to lose "quicker."

If you need help coming up with a schedule, ask! :)

Chris says in the book that a 1% weight loss per week is a good average to shoot by. So, for example, if you weigh 150 pounds (10 above my goal weight) then you can expect a 1.5 pound loss a week ON AVERAGE. You've already lost 4 this week. Yes it might be all water retention, but who cares! Own it! You only have 10-15 pounds to lose, so it will be slow.

Wish I could help you here... but I have not tried it yet.

Julie, there are two things you'll want to look at. First off, double check your hand sizes. I'd focus more on eating to the hand size guidelines and less on the "calories." for now. When I limited myself to calories I had a harder time fitting in all my veggies. But again this is a trial and error thing... and weight loss isn't "linear" either. Geeze. No wonder it is so hard!

Secondly, I'd also take a look at your exercise. Are you doing the same routine that you started with? Chris recommends in the book adding around 6 minutes per week, to the end of 90 days. At the end of 90 days he recommends starting over at the low end time (30 minutes), but at a higher intensity, and then slowly add in the 6min per week again. So, the type of exercise you are doing might be the issue.

Also, you might want to consider taking some time to figure out your TDEE & BMR. I wrote a long post/blog about this called my "novemember experiment" (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/babeinthemoon/view/my-november-experiment-441833). I did increase my calories for novemember, and I lost weight, and felt more energy, however I didn't lose as fast as I expected. December, I "fell off the bandwagon" for a while, so I'm just thrilled that I maintained over the whole month.

Thirdly, yes, if you havn't done a slingshot week, you might want to consider that as well. Some people do it every 4 weeks like clockwork, others wait until they see a mini plateau starting. I keep flipping back and forth on it. I won't be doing my next officialy slingshot until the end of the month at least, perhaps not unitl February.
