Twin Cities Marathon Weekend!!! Super fun, the year before last this was my first-ever 10k, & last year it was my first 10 mile. Both awesome. Hoping to win a spot in the 10M this year.

This sounds like a great event and I am really looking forward to it! Does it sell out quickly? I Noticed the marathon registration opens next month!

No, I don't think it sells out quickly. We have a corporate team & I recall people registering as late as Sept for the races. Even though my race wasn't until Sunday, I went down there Saturday to hang out & cheer on some 5k'ers I know. The kids races are fun to watch too!

I am already registered but for those of you that are not, you may wish to sign up soon Marathon prices increase by $10 after March 24th. Based on previous years, the marathon distance is also likely to sell out by summer time.

Hope to see many of you there!

I intend to come at Saturday cheer on others running the 5K and 10K distances also!

I am now on week 3 of my 18 week Hal Higdon training program. I am really looking forward to my first marathon this fall!

Me! Me! Got into the 10 Mile again, looking forward to it! But I just found out about the TC Loony Challenge and I'm sooooo tempted...if you do the 5k, 10k, AND 10 mile, you get a special medal! https://www.tcmevents.org/events/medtronic_twin_cities_marathon_weekend/tc_loony/

That Loony Challenge sounds like fun! It also looks like another guaranteed way for a certain number of people to get a spot in the 10 mile without the lottery.

It's a fine line between weak and awesome.

LOL! I'm sitting here trying to map out my training plan and wondering WTF did I get myself into??? So I'll be doing 9.35 miles on that Saturday(10/5), and since I'm pretty pokey I'll be coming across the 10k finish just as the 5k starts so it's not like I'll get a break. Then I'll be doing 10 miles the next day. A girlfriend told me that for training if I do 10 milers two days in a row one time during training that should be enough, so I hope that's true, It'll have to be!

I honestly think you're going to be fine! Just make sure to fuel that week appropriately.

After reading this thread I was looking at the website & thinking about doing the 10K. Coming from outstate MN, though, I'm intimidated by the location and all that entails (lodging, parking, etc). I lived down in the TC area but that was 18 years ago, and I never lived in St. Paul. Any tips or advice?

All hotels nearby will be pretty expensive that weekend. If you are okay with that you can stay nearby and walk to the starting line. Another option would be to find a hotel in the suburbs and just take a bus to avoid the parking problem.

Since I live in the Twin Cities I will just have someone drop me off nearby and pick me up later.

Thanks! I've got some friends & relatives who live down there but far enough away (Prior Lake, Brooklyn Park) that they're a little too far away for me to want to stay with them.

I'm doing the marathon, it will be my 2nd. I'm not in peak performance d/t some pain/medical issues over the summer so a little worried but know I can finish under the time.

I'm donig my last 20 miler tomorrow. found a local race to do it with so excited it will be supported so I don't have to worry about hydration!

    Congrats on your PR!

I also enjoyed the cooler temps for my first marathon today! I felt great about finishing in the top 1/4 of the 8800+ runners after just starting to run last fall (my first 5k was on 12/1/12). Having thousands of spectators cheering the entire race definitely made the experience even more enjoyable.

Any regrets I had about my pacing were eliminated once I looked at the split times for the field and the course elevation chart below (the last six miles were by far the hilliest of the race). Despite slowing down for the second half, my overall ranking was actually best at the finish line (as compared to the 5k, 10k, 13.1m, 30k, 21m and 24m points)!

Sounds like an awesome first marathon, congrats! My wife, dog and I walked down to mile 7 to cheer, since we live pretty close to lake harriet. Looked it was an awesome experience and definitely motivated me to sign up for it next year as my first marathon (I started running in the end of Feb this year and so far a half marathon is the longest race I've done). I think sign ups are in Feb.
