I love Sci-Fi and Fantasy but I don't really like the Horror genre too much.

I always think "Why don't they turn the light on", "Why don't they just leave", "That think must have a pair of balls that could be kicked"

I used to love horror, but now, yeah, I'm with you.

I agree, horror is not very fun to watch. Much of it is cliche

I do like a mind twist like Mothman Prophecies. When it came out I thought it was clever. They, Them, It are also good ones. Stuff more akin to a dark fairey tale versus gore fest.

Cabin in the Woods wasn't bad but I was a little disappointed because there was supposed to be such a huge surprise and there wasn't. Maybe I've just seen to much Joss Whedon stuff (can you really see too much?).

The Skeleton Key was excellent. Not necessarily horror, but creepy nonetheless.

I like alot of the "F you" endings in movies.. like Se7en. and the first Saw movie. (The others were crap. The first one was the best.) I enjoy the twist but not at the M Night level.

Honestly Cabin in The Woods played like a Wolfram and Hart movie to me. Very Buffy/Angel-verse.

I just can't hang with it. The recent trend of "real" actors doing horror movies is starting to worry me, like they're trying to mainstream a genre that is over-gratifying the sadistic and merciless streaks in us and desensitizing us to gore. Tarantino is excessive enough for me on that count. The reason the slasher movies seem so illogical is that the "story" is usually just fluff getting you from one disgusting scene to the next, much like a porn movie :P Anything involving saws or torture is right out for me. There has to be some reason for the movie other than mutilation and humiliation.

Does anyone consider Invasion of the Body Snatchers a horror movie? Would it qualify as one today? The Shining? The Excorcist scared me poo-less when I was a kid. Let Me In was cool, still want to see the original version. Before Prometheus came out (sigh) we rewatched the original Alien movie, and were reminded of how scary it is even though we sort of remembered how it turned out. The Ring was creepy; Pan's Labyrinth was kind of disturbing. Mothman was cool. Seems like if you can mix sci-fi or fantasy/period/classic drama with it, it can be pretty good.

I like everything from the Hobbit to Harry Potter, Aliens to Stargate, Dr. Who & Torchwood to Buffy & Angel ....... "Fright Night" with David Tennant was a good movie, even funny, if you like vampire stuff.

But if there's a really scary movie on TV, I can only watch if my husband's in the room with me ...... if he leaves to do something, I'll pause the TV ....... and wait .......

I love Stephen King stuff, but "It" scared the crap out of me, that freaking clown ...... I've never read or seen "Pet Sematary" ..... and I won't even try things like "Saw" or "Chainsaw Massacre" ...... there are enough gruesome weirdos out in the world ...... I'll stick to vampires, zombies, aliens & Orcs !

I like a good thriller/mind screw horror movie. I'm over all the "slasher" flicks that just try to think of new ways to cut a person up.

I'd take "The Ring" over "Hostel" any day.

i love sci-fi, but i am not as forgiving w horror. i gen think horror is poorly written, but can be good. I just think it's too easy for hollywood to make millions off of crap so why bother w a good script. On that note, here are a few a few horror favs off the top of my head:

the orphanage, i'm not scared, the perfect host

also: Time Crimes = fantastic. it def has scary elements to it but is by far the BEST movie about time travel i have yet to see. This is a must for sci-fi fans and those who can discuss the intricacies of time travel ad nauseum.
