I just thought I would start some of you off with this...

When I first started I was getting very caught up on technique and styles. I am not the most coordinated person in the world and being heavy I wasn't so sure I could do it.

My body wouldn't move a certain way and I would get frustrated. Then some wise words were spoken to me from some special dancers...

Everyone's body is different. Everyone will have those things they are good at and not good at even in the most experienced dancer. Find what your thing is and focus on that...

For some hips, hips, hips...I fall into this category. Arms I totally suck at but have gotten better. I find a place for my arms and show off my hips...then no one notices what my arms are doing because they are too focused on my booty lol.

For some its the arms. What they do with their arms is nothing short of mesmerizing but they arnt able to move their hips as well.

For some its a matter of genetics, for others it is challenges for whatever reason...

I could barely walk when I first started. I had a hip problem that was getting worse and worse. Not only has bellydance helped this it has done something to help my directional issues and balance from being electrocuted years ago.

Just be patient with yourself and dont let size or challenge keep you from it.

There are all kinds of dvds out there which is how I have learned. I have spent countless hours studying different people on youtube as well which actually has been very beneficial. Everyone has there own way of doing things. New styles arrive all the time.

Dont get stuck on a right way or a wrong way to do it. Just do it. Just move your body and allow it to come alive with the beats. You might even create your own style.

If you have any questions about dvds out there just ask me I have about 70 fitness dvds now maybe I have lost count.

I hope this helps you get started if you have been thinking of bellydancing and didn't think you could.
