Ridell Wicked vs. Ridell Vandal

I'm looking to upgrade my skates. When I first started derby I bought some of the cheapest skates available (Sure Grip Rebels) with the plan that those would become my "outdoor" skates if I stick with derby. Needless to say, I have fallen in love and derby is now my life. It's totally time to buy some real derby skates.

I have it narrowed down to either the Wicked or the Vandal. I've heard great things about the 265 boot but can't make up my mind about which skate would be best for my needs. My main question is.. is the Wicked *really* worth the extra $150? I am not a member of an uber competitive league and have no plans to ever transfer to a league that is more competitive.

I currently weigh 174. I spend 4-7 hours a week on my skates. I know the main difference are the nylon plates vs the aluminum plates. Advice please!!

Wicked
Boot: 265 Black or White
Plate: PowerDyne Rival Aluminum
Wheels: Radar Bullet 93A Neon Purple
Bearings: KwiK Zenith
Toe Stop: PowerDyne Moonwalker Electric Yellow
Sizes: Black: 3-13 Full & Half - B/AA (Delta) and D/B (Gamma)
MSRP: $449

Vandal
Boot: 265
Plate: PowerDyne Nylon
Wheels: Radar Blue Tuner
Bearings: Kwik ABEC-7
Sizes available: 4-13 Full & Half - Medium

Thanks for the help!

All the senior skaters in my league say that the Aluminum plates are much better. I actually saw a chick snap a nylon plate in half while skating, and she wasn't even in a bout or doing anything major.

If you're not planning on being competitive, I don't see a problem with the nylon plates. Now if you are planning on skating for awhile, and will be bouting go with aluminum plates.

I'm upgrading to the Riedell Divine, which is the vegan 265 boot. It's plates are the PowerDyne DynaPro, which is still aluminum but slightly less expensive then the Rival plates. The complete skate package is priced at $399.99, which is between the Vandal and Wicked.

The skate site rollergirlskates.com has a good video with info on the Wicked.

Best of luck with your decision :)
