Foods Labeled Gluten Free That Don't Seem To Be

K... so two days ago I did a happy dance at the grocery store when I saw that Tostito's had blue corn tortilla chips, blatantly labeled "Gluten Free"....
Well guess what folks, I was sick yesterday after eating them, had more last night and I'm REALLY sick today. Nothing else in my diary changed - that is the obvious denominator.
I'm thinking they aren't gluten free at ALL, so wanted to give a head's up, because before this incident, I was starting to FINALLY feel normal. I feel like I'm back to day 20 of my healing all over again!!!!
Have any of you found products labeled "Gluten Free" that your body reacted to?

Ugh! I'm fortunate, I guess, that my symptoms don't come on as suddenly or severely, but it does keep me from being able to make a direct link to the cause when I flare up. Blue corn chips sound so good, too.
Did you contact the company? They need to know about the problem. If several people complain, maybe they will change the labeling or reevaluate their processing.0 -
I'm writing Frito Lay as I type this...... yep.... complaining.
I haven't felt this sick in MONTHS....0 -
I discovered that when I first went gluten free I had a lot of reactions to a lot of things. I thought it was due to undisclosed gluten but really it was just that my stomach hadn't healed yet. Now that my stomach has healed I can eat those things I used to react to without issue.0

Wow really? Ok, well that's encouraging then. Thank you!0 -
I couldn't even drink coffee for the longest time. I kept thinking there was gluten in the flavorings and people on the celiac.com site kept telling me to wait it out and I was still healing. They were right!0

Oh wow. I've been drinking coffee daily - except for today. Guess I'll cut it out too.
Is it because of the acid level? (I know it's on the acid vs. alkaline side)0 -
It is acidic. If you aren't reacting to it you might be ok though! It was just a strange quirk I was having for a few months!
Healing was a strange process. Some days I'd feel great and then bam sick for no reason. Even if I ate the same thing as the day before! Even now if I get glutened at a restaurant or something I'll be off for a couple of weeks!0 -
I agree with anglyn1...also I find coconut oil to be really helpful in the stomach healing process; I usually put it in my tea or coffee in the morning. Marshmallow extract is another great one for stomach health. Good luck on your healing.0
-
Wow, I've never heard of marshmallow extract. How much would you recommend per day?
Can't do coconut anything - been allergic to coconuts for years.....0 -
Another thing that is supposed to help is L-Glutamine powder. Just get the bulk powder rather than the capsules, it's much cheaper. 1/2 teaspoon mixed with water daily, and it's pretty much flavorless.0

I dont get sick for 2-3 days after being "poisoned" but I know I have ate those chips lots of times and havent had a problem at all.0

^^ Lucky... because MAN were they good! LOL!0

Could you have a ( don't hit me) corn issue too? I'm starting to think I've got more than gluten going on.0

I can't eat any grains, including corn and rice. My son and my dad also react to corn.0

My son and mom react to corn too, and I think I do but I'm still trying to figure that one out.0
