Virtual TransContinental Ride

I've looked through all the thread topics to make sure this isn't already here.

There's a really cool website, "Tools to Keep You Active" (http://exercise.lbl.gov/index.html) for logging your mileage as if you were doing a TransAmerica trip, the Northern Tier Route (Yorktown, VA to Florence, OR.) When you log your distance, it not only keeps track for you but brings up a photo of where you'd be if you were really riding the route, where the next town is, etc. I'm planning this same ride for next summer with a group of friends (probably west to east, though) so it's really fun to be viewing the route online and making progress along it even though I'm in Georgia!

There's a MFP group doing it as a team -- "Travel Across the U.S."
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/10502-travel-across-the-us-2013

Many are posting their walking or running miles (I'm posting running and cycling) and the group moderator sends you a message when there's a milestone (like when the group finally made it out of Virginia!!)

Just wanted to pass this along.... it's a really fun way to keep track of your mileage, whether you join the group or just do it yourself.

That is really cool. Maybe this could be our Feb challenge! Tell your buddies I'm taking votes :) If enough ppl want to join, I will set it up

4063 miles... we did 1.5x that in 25 days on the TdF challenge iirc, and also passed it on the Vuelta challenge - okay, so the weather's not exactly conducive to 8 hours at a time in the saddle, but I reckon it's do-able.

If you're handing out team-numbers for Feb, I'll make one - unless it's a septics only thing - in which case i'll do a virtual LeJog and sod you all
