The minimum target of 1200 calories -- is that for food eaten or is that for net calories? Is it safe to leave intake at 1200 and burn whatever you can (or does that put the body into 'starvation mode')?

I think it is up to you as to whether or not you allow yourself "extra" calories based on physical exercise or not. I do feel it would be safe to stay around 1200 and burn, probably will lose more that way. Just my two cents though, and I am not a nutritionist!

I agree with Leigh Ann. But I would also add that after you do that for a few days, if you notice that you have less energy or are sleepy more than usual, then up your calories. You need to have enough food in your system to maintain your energy - and a lot of times after working out, you will have gone through all you food and will need to replenish. It's one of those things that you'll have to play around with and see what works best for you.
