Lower back issues

Hi,
I'm new to Insanity, i've done some spin and other classes but nothing so intense as this. I want to lose around 20lbs so i'm abit overweight.

I've just started Insanity and my lower back feels really tight. Do you reckon it's just the fact that i have no core strength and my back is taking the strain. I guess once i build up more core muscles the core will take the strain away from my back.

Should i just ice and stretch my back more?

Do any of you agree??

Thanks

I am "bumping" b/c I would like to hear the advice to this as well.

I am doing ChaLean Extreme and this morning when I bend my lower back is hurting, like the muscles there are sore. I am not sure if I am not in correct form while doing the lifting or if really I am just going to be sore there from the bending.

I hope "we" get answers soon!

For alot of the insanity exercises-you must tighten your core-tighten your stomach like you are about to get punched. It's a pain in the butt at first-you're panting away doing something, and he reminds you to tighten your core-oh yeah!. After awhile it becomes second nature. But it will save your back-otherwise, you might end up skipping a week while your back muscles relax. That's from my experience. And take some motrin.

LOTS of stretching will help loosen up your back. I pulled a muscle in my back two years ago and still have trouble with it tightening up...but if I really really really stretch consistantly, it feels better and I am more mobile. Insanity is really tough...so you might want to do extra stretching before starting the dvd
    good luck :)

Most definitely. Keep in mind that some low back pain can be attributed to tight hamstrings and even down into the calves. You will be amazed at how much daily stretching (more than what they do for cool off) helps. It has made a difference for me, and especially so if you are in a chair, as I am, all day. You might try investing in a foam roller. It is in P90X2, which I haven't jumped on yet. My wife used to work at a gym and swears by them for helping work the knots out from the tightness. I know it killed my calves last night when I did it the first time.
