New to Lesley -what do you recommend

Hi all, I'm new to walking with Lesley. I've done a mile with her for the last 2 days and really enjoyed it.
I'm recovering from a broken foot so walking at home is ideal for me and I would like to start mixing it up rather than the same mile routine every day. Although I'll stick to that for the first week I think.
I'm in the UK and finding it hard to get hold of any of her DVDs (she's not well known here at all) so I've just been using You Tube. But I don't rellay know what to look for ? I'd really appreciate your suggestions and looking forward to taking part in the February challenge.

Hello and welcome to the group. I think you will really love Leslie's Walk at Home Videos because for most peoplewho begin a WAH program find them to be workouts that they can really stick with. (I've been doing WAH for about 5 years.)
You might find this thread helpful:

Also, if you haven't already, check out the Walk at Home website: http://www.walkathome.com/.
I'm from the US, but hopefully there's someone form the UK in our group that can tell you where to get DVDs.
PS while I'm not new to WAH, I am new to this group, too so please feel free to friend me.0 -
I like my current one, Walk Slim 4 Fast Miles...it is really good!0

collagevideo.com and totalfitnessdvds.com are great tools for looking up exercise videos. These sites will give you video clips & reviews. totalfitnessdvds.com has great customer service .... they will ship overseas.
Leslie "primer" (of sorts) ......
Walk Away the Pounds (WATP) DVDs were workouts originally on VHS. The vast majority of these DVDs are NOT chaptered. This means a 4 mile workout (1 hour long) has to be fast forwarded to make the workout shorter. I find the music volume on most of these DVDs to be too quiet..... some people like quiet. WATP for Abs .... is one set where the volume is pretty good.
Walk At Home .... these workouts were made for DVD. Most workouts here are chaptered (at the miles .... kind of like 15 minute markers). There is an occasional workout that is "programmable" .... you pick & choose up front, and then hit play. My favorite Walk at Home is 3 Mile Weight Loss Walk .... uses light dumbbells & Mary Kay leads mile 2.
Just Walk .... this latest series has a new look. If you're looking for "regular" Leslie walkers (JoAnne, Carol or Mary Kay) they are mostly missing. The new studio is bright & cheery though. Ultimate 5 Day Walk Plan is programmable.. it features strength training sections too (not the most challenging) .... but a good place to start.
You can use collagevideo & totalfitness sites to look for "music only options" ...... "mixed impact" means the workout features jogging intervals .... also see if equipment is required (dumbbells, resistance band, walking belt (very much like resistance bands) etc.
The great thing about the older WATP .... you can look for complitation DVDs that will have several workouts on them. My favorite compilation is called Walk Away the Pounds Fat Burning Collection. It features 4 workouts: Power Mile is walking with weights, Walk & Jog has jogging intervals, Walk Strong is a circuit workout, and Walk & Kick which features kickboxing type moves. Lots of variety on 1 disc.0 -
The website www . collagevideo . com is a great place to learn about the individual dvd's Leslie has made. Amazon . com also sells a lot of her workouts. Some of the listings have previews too.
It has a preview of each workout that will give you an idea of what the workout is like. So helpful becausa a lot of Leslies dvd's are reissued as new when they are really older workouts. Have to really check the dates on them so you don't end up purchasing a duplicate.
As another poster mentioned, Walk Away the Pounds is a great series. It has beginner, intermediate and advanced miles so as you progress you can move up in intensity.
My favorites right now are Walk Away the Pounds 4 Mile Super Challenge and Walk Your Belly Flat. Oh and The 5 Day Slim Down is a good one IMHO.
Hope you'll find some workouts you love and join us on the monthly Walk with Leslie Challenge thread.0 -
Oops, TeaBea has pretty much profiled what Leslie has to offer. Nicely done, Teabea.
I like those compilation dvd's too. Get more bang for your buck. I got the 4 MIle Super Challenge, Walk and Jog and The Muscle Mile all on one dvd at Target many years ago.
Have to say I miss Carol and Mary Kay and the rest of the old gang. Someone here who will remain anonymous said that the walkers in the newer ones look like James Bond girls. Cracked me up.

Oh, wanted to say this... on a negative note, I just did a new one for me called Walk Off Even More Weight. It was pretty cheap at Sam's Club so I said what the heck.
It comes with a 2 lb weighted belt. It's kind of an odd thing. No directions to put it together in the box nor does Leslie show how to do it. I got it together but mine sure didn't look like Leslies. I must say that Leslie must have an 18 inch waist. Sufice to say that I sure don't!! Lol. Anyway, I did 2 miles with the belt and I do believe when you get used to it it can be useful.
The workout is only so-so. Bad camera work and for some reason they did it facing some floor to ceiling length mirrors on either side of one of those raised circles that she sometimes does the workout on. You could see one of the camera guys moving around several times while filming. One time they decided to film her from behing a stand of weight belts, balls and tubing. That was weird. I do have to give the camera people some credit for queing her when to look at the 2 cameras. A lot of times she is not qued properly (5 Day Slim Down is a perfect example of that) but this time someone was right on that.
Someone left a weighted belt laying on the circle where she was working out and I kept thinking it was a safety hazard. Of course she didn't trip on it, but you are left wondering why it was there and never removed; it was not part of the workout, she was wearing hers.
The music was pretty much the same as on the 5 Mile Slim Down. And she's still talking about "don't tip back" while doing knee lifts and more "juice in the joints" talk. Sigh. Love her but hearing that over and over is somewhat tiring. Nothing much new here, the belt is considered a booster. I think just holding two 1 lb weights in your hands would do the trick as well.
Hope this is useful for someone. It might be a good workout for someone new to Leslies methods.0 -
Groupon Goods has a great deal on Leslie's Super Walk kits ... 4 DVDs and body boost cables for $29 .... free shipping. You wear the cables on each foot. These workouts are kind of fun. Definitely different .... I like variety.
