Heart Rate

I'm only 6 weeks along and haven't had the chance to meet with a doctor yet so I'm putting this question out to you ladies.
Any recommendations for a target heart rate while preggers? A girlfriend of mine got the advice from her doc not to bring it up above 140. Is that true for most people? I feel like that's low. 140 is a brisk walk for me. Aerobic usually peaks at 185. I would like to do more during this pregnancy than just walk. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Because I was heavily active before becoming pregnant, my midwife said that it was safe to continue most of my activities as before. I just have to try and keep my heart rate below 160. I am currently 29 weeks, and am still doing Zumba, so I modify some moves to keep my heart rate down. It does go up faster, and stays up longer the further that I get in my pregnancy, so I just modify my workouts and listen to my body.0

At my peak, my HR would range between 180-200 for normal workout HR. My midwife said that each person is different and the best way to gauge whether you're overdoing it (aka not getting enough oxygen for you and baby) is to hold a conversation while you work out. if you can hold a conversation while not getting terribly out of breath, then you're ok despite the heart rate.0

I had an extensive conversation with my obgyn about the 140 heart rate. And I'm here to tell you my obgyn told me its crap. That's a baseline for woman who have NEVER worked out before. If you do cardio regularly keep doing what your doing, just don't push it. I get my heart rate up to 160-165 while doing cardio. My son is not being deprived of oxogyn and he is just fine after my workouts. And I agree with the post above me. If you can carry on a conversation while working out your fine.0
