Making it thru a MN Winter...

I am not an outdoors person when it comes to the winter...I do not like the cold. So I was wondering what people do to make it thru winter without gaining weight. Tendancies for me lean toward cuddled up on the couch with a blanket & movie, sipping hot cocoa & snacking or eating warm "comfort" foods. My exercise consists of 30-60 minutes a few times a week with the Wii Fit Plus (days off) & walking (my job keeps me moving around a fair amount). I have often found myself going over my calories (especially on my days off). We eat out a few times a week too, but I try to pick what I think are the healthiest options. Any suggestions?

Personally, I upped my calories. I found I was ravenous and moody to boot, so although it may make me sit at maintenance or put me up a few pounds, it's worth it to me. I've also started working out more at home, I set my own tabata workout. I can definitely feel a change in inches. =)

stock your house with healthy options... drink tea... do more exercise...

I work out 5-6 days a week and that helps the moodiness and yuck of a MN winter go by quicker :)

I've been working out 40-60 min a day in my living room. We've also been sick, making it impossible to get out of the house. I have an intense fear of ice from a fall I had 5 years ago, which makes me basically a hermit in the winter. I'm really looking forward to spring, lol.

As much as I HATE to cook I have realized that eating out is always a bad idea. Not only are the restaurants cooking in the worst possible methods they also serve WAY more than one serving per dish. I find things that I can put in the crock pot. That way it doesn't feel so much like cooking to me. I swear when I get rich ( ) I am going to have a personal chef at all times.

I've been working out a lot because up here in Bemidji there's NOTHING else to do! ha!

I am hating the winter (I'm not native to the midwest) but it's not really affecting my fitness goals. If anything it's helping. But then, I have a gym membership.

Soup is great comfort food without killing your calorie allotment for the day. I have a couple good recipes for crock pot beef vegetable as well as black bean taco soup. It's easy, pretty healthy, and perfect for a bitter cold day.
