stress eating?

Now that I'm logging my food, I notice how much stress drives my eating.
My case load is both high and acute at the moment... to the point where I'm relieved to get through a day where everyone is still breathing and no one is bleeding. A day where one of my kids is not in the ER or detention is a blessing this time of year.
What strategies do you all use to manage the desire to eat as a way to manage stress in acute situations?

I use the GoGo applesauce packs. Easy to keep around and eat one (60 cals). I keep active with movement , walking hallways even, or do some minute meditation.
I used to work ER and decompress time was my eating trigger. Easy, close to hand, low cal snack worked pretty good.
(And, thank you for what you do.....)0 -
Applesauce packs, you say? Healthier than the overeating of brownies, for sure!
No spoon required.
Thanks for the tip!
Was trying to figure out how to calculate the calorie burn on dodging flying objects being thrown by an angry 9 year old.
The nice thing about doing short term MH crisis work is that the caseload turns over pretty quickly.
Things seem to be down to a dull roar today, which makes surfing the chaos a little more fun and less stressful.
Thanks for the reminder that "meditation" does not necessarily have to mean "formal sitting meditation".0 -
New to the group as of 2 seconds ago. I also work in mental health: I'm an LCSW in the ICU of a cancer hospital. So, I understand stress eating. Also bored eating. Things seem to be either nuts or slow up here. Anyway, since I started taking stuff seriously, I find that exercise is helping sooooo much. I have a friend/neighbor who's a nurse and we've been going to the gym at 5:30 a.m. before our day gets started. I find if I do that, I'm motivated to take better care of myself through the day. For YEARS, I refused to do something like this, but decided to take the plunge (with a lot of help from my friend) and now I find I actually like it.
It would be great to add more friends from this group, so ya'll feel free:flowerforyou:0 -
Wow! 5:30 is very close to oh-dark thirty! Good for you for getting on it with your friend.0
