eating enough fat?

I've been tracking my food for about 2 weeks now and I notice that I rarely make it above 40 grams of fat in a day- MFP has my goal set at 70. 1) Does 70 seem like a reasonable amount? 2) If so, how on earth can I add more fat without going over too much on my calories? I am allergic to most nuts, which might make it trickier.

I wish that was my problem! I always eat over my fat allowance even when I'm under my calories. You do need a bit of fat though, as does baby. You could try full-fat dairy, or avacados, and olives. Also don't forget to count any oils you use for cooking. Sesame, olive, and sunflower oils are all good fats. You could use them to make dressings to add to vegetables. Everything I've read says no more than 20% of calories should come from fat. I'm not sure how that translated to grams though.

In opposition to contemporary thought, fat is a baby's best friend for brain development! It actually helps prevent things like autism...Anyway, have some meat with fat in it & full-fat dairy! Go wild! lol.

I eat alot of avocado for my fats. One of my favourite pregnancy snacks has been a diced tomato, half a diced avocado with a little olive oil and blasamic vinegar, spooned onto a couple of cruskits (not sure if thats an Aussie thing). I found it really good for an afternoon snack as that's when I got the worst nausea.

I recommend avocados too. They're really versatile, so you aren't stuck with guacamole every time. I just tried out this awesome recipe for chocolate pudding made with avocados and it's actually insanely good. I used soy milk instead of coconut milk, but it turned out just fine anyway. It's a great way to tackle a sweet craving without going overboard, and it uses honey instead of sugar. Don't be turned off by the fact that it's avocado based, I think i could serve it to someone and they'd never know it wasn't your average chocolate pudding.

The website also has a recipe for "ice cream," but I haven't tried it yet. I'm waiting for my blender to dry. I'ma update in like 10 minutes though and either brag on it, or delete any mention of it.

Both seem like a great way to add some extra fat and nutrients to your diet, especially if you're craving sweets like I am right now. And they're sugar free, how much more awesome can it get?

Edit: The "ice cream" was awesome. And it has 15 grams of fat in it. It's a lot less rich than the pudding, and I think I prefer it.

Thanks everyone! Avocado is on my mildly allergic list, but I ignore that list sometimes. I think I will switch out some of my dairy to full fat. I wish costco sold 2% plain fage b/c I eat LOADS of non-fat kind. I may just have to suck up the cost difference and buy it at Kroger.
