Im Joanne, 31 years old. Married for 10 months after a transatlantic love affair between Wales( where Im from) and New Jersey )the husbands home. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was around 19. I tried Metformin but didnt get on with it so I just gave up. I was single until about 2 years ago so there was never any reason for me to fix my PCOS to have kids. Ive had 2 scans that confirm my PCOS. Now Im living in America with my husband, we'd like to start a family and I just wish Id stayed on the Metformin when I was younger because now maybe I wouldnt feel like maybe kids just arent in the stars for us. We have regular sex but I dont get a period very often so conceiving i think is futile. I weigh around 330lbs right now and Ive lost 12lbs since the summer but the weight just doesnt want to come off. My father has already had a weight related heart attack and my brother dies at 35 weighing over 500lbs. I dont want to go out like that. i want to be healthy and start a family. Everything just seems so stacked up against me in this. Anyone relate?

*apologies for the depressing first post*

Welcome aboard! Have you been to a doctor here yet? A doctor with fresh eyes may be able to set things in the right direction. I'm not overweight, but went to the ob/gyn when I was going 50-60 days without a period after I came off of the pill. I just finished a round of provera to force my period to come (apparently it is dangerous to not have at least every 90 days), and I start clomid tonight.

Don't rule out future children yet! I do encourage you to go establish care with an ob/gyn who was experience with treating PCOS or an RE. There is no time like the present to get started!

Welcome! I'm 25, living in Europe but I'm from the US. I was diagnosed last July and the doctor says my PCOS is "very severe" in terms of my androgen levels. My ovaries have doubled in size in the last 9 months! I'm not overweight but I deal with the other PCOS problems. I can relate to you though in having family members die with weight-related illnesses. My dad died last July suddenly and unexpectedly of cardiac arrest. He was probably about 350lbs, but I'm not sure. He had diabetes and heart disease. Because of PCOS and genetics, I'm afraid of these illnesses regardless of my weight. I'm sorry that you've dealt with this pain in your family as well, but I'm glad you want to do what you can to keep yourself healthy.

I haven't been on Metformin, but many people have said it makes them sick. Some stay with it, some don't. Regardless of the medication you use or don't use, though, please know that you've got to keep an eye on your PCOS regardless of whether you are trying to conceive or not, because of the risks of all the other health problems.

Congratulations on that 12lbs! It is very hard for women with PCOS to lose weight. They fight tooth and nail for every pound, but it IS possible and you can do it! This forum is invaluable for me and so many others in looking for advice and support. We are all different, but we can all benefit from the exchange of stories and kind words.

As for fertility, I'm not currently trying to conceive, but I just wanted to say that while it is very common to not get periods very often, it doesn't always mean you're not ovulating. Plus, if you actively want to get pregnant, there is a whole range of options out there to try to give you the best chance possible. Talk to a doctor about it. Regardless of sex frequency, if you've got unpredictable cycles and you're not having sex at the right time, it's not going to happen regardless of fertility. So take heart, there is a lot of help out there!

You can add me as a friend if you want. I wish you the very best, I know you can achieve everything you want. :flowerforyou:
