increasing my calories.... scared

For the last 30 days I have been sticking to 1200 calories and I have done really well and I have lost a little over ten lbs but for the last few days I have been so hungry and I have blacked out a few times. I hope I am making the right choice and not hurting my chances at weight loss. Any input you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

You have to do what works for you. Obviously if you're passing out, 1200 calories is not working! lol Try upping your calories and see how it goes.0

Oh my goodness, blacking out?! Your body is sending you a clear signal that something is wrong. It could very well be the low calories, but have you talked to a doctor about it? Are you insulin-resistant, or do you have any other conditions besides PCOS?
I have really been trying to increase calories lately. When I started logging on mfp, I was really surprised how little I'm eating! It never occurred to me because my body must have habituated to that calorie level, but that doesn't make it healthy. I'm constantly tired, and I've fainted a couple times in the past 10 years, but the doctor chalked it up to being sick at the time.
It's not purely about weight loss... It's about finding a permanent way of life that works for you and keeps you healthy. There are some other ladies in this group who are doing very well at losing weight and are eating much more than that. I'm sure you will get some great advice.0 -
I think you are doing the right thing by increasing your calories. You shouldn't starve yourself! Just pick the right kind of snacks. Your life is not "Biggest Loser" it's okay to lose weight at a pace that is healthy for you. If adding calories doesn't help, please go see a doctor!0

I eat 1700 calories a day and I'm still losing. Load up on veggies and protein, you'll be fine eating more.0

I am going to see my doctor in a few weeks. When she first diagnosed me with PCOS I asked her about starting metformin and she said that she wasn't concerned about my sugar because my fasting glucose was 75. I think that my sugar is probably even lower since I have lost weight and I am eating better. Is low sugar a symptom of insulin resistance? I do have a strong family history of diabetes.0

Thanks for the advice guys. ... I just needed some reassurance that it was okay to increase my calories. Feel free to add me to your friend lists. :-) I will keep you posted. So far the two hundred calories have helped.0

I was thinking of you this morning. How are you doing with a few extra hundred calories a day?0 -
It has helped tremendously! I am able to add in two more snacks and I am eating back some of my exercise calories. I was doing realy well eating healthy foods but my hormones are out of wack this week and I have made some pooe choices....I have fallen victim to empyt calories. Oh well I am still logging my calories and not hiding my food choices which is progress.my blacking out happens much less frequently. Thanks for thinking of me. :-)0
