A Voice in the Dark

Ok, so I'm new to this group and it looks as if there aren't a lot of people around anymore, but I thought I would start this anyway. My family is getting sick of my rambling about my missions. I figured it would be fun to have a thread about each mission, where we could talk about it specifically. Obviously, the thread would include SPOILERS!!! for anyone who hasn't done that mission. But try to keep spoilers from future missions out of it.
So, I thought I would start with my favorite one so far and see if anyone is even interested in the idea.
*** SPOILER ALERT *** SPOILER ALERT *** SPOILER ALERT *** SPOILER ALERT *** SPOILER ALERT ***
I absolutely LOVED this mission. It was so heart breaking, touching and scary all at once. I actually did it in the dark. After dark in MN in January is pretty lonely, no one is out and about. I do the missions in residential areas, so there isn't even any traffic to speak of. It makes it so easy to put myself in the game, to believe it's real. This one felt so real to me, I haven't been able to get it out of my head.
And... am I the only one who is a little bit in love with Sam now? :blushing:
He stayed up, all night, just on the off chance that I was still alive. That's the part that really got me. And the things he was saying. His history (am I the only one who assumes he was the one who had to kill his parents?), what he was saying about remembering the past so we know what we are working for, calling me a friend, and the pure joy in his voice when I made it back. All coupled with his little jokes and the way he manages to stay light hearted in the face of it all. Oh yeah, this one really got to me.
It inspired me to create the back story of myself as Runner 5. lol

it's been a while since I ran this one, so I had to go look it up. This was the run where my headphones kept dropping out at the beginning of my run. What a perfect mission for that, 'eh? This has been one of my favorite missions, too. I wish I'd run it in the dark, but it was full daylight. I think that would have made it scarier.
This was the mission that got me thinking about why I would have been in the UK when this all happened.0 -

Me too! I now have a pretty good back story. It includes why I was in the UK, why I was there without my family, and it's something that could happen. (not a, "won the lottery, divorced my husband, moved to the UK" type of thing, because that wouldn't happen!)0 -
I remember when I was doing this mission. I was trail running, and while Sam was talking, I stopped to catch my breath at the top of the mountain. No one around. No traffic noise. No sound at all except birds.

We cant run outside from November to end of march or so, so its been awhile since we've done any missions, but I cant wait till its warm enough for us to go running again. I do this with my husband and teenage daughter. both my husband adn i have the app so we switch off nights on who's app we run, which means we usually do both missions one night after the other. Its amazing how many things you pick up the second time thru.
That being said, we usually do this at night, in the country, with very little lighting except the stars and moon, farm animals and coyotes all around. very zombie movie scary. We've had a few 'close calls' when things were getting intense in the story and we'd just happen to be walking by a cow by a fence and it'd scare the boogers out of us.
We'll be back once the air temperature is above freezing so we can breath again.0 -
I just ran this one the other day and I have to say it was probably my favorite so far. I really thought it was amazing of Sam to keep talking me through it even though he had no reason to hope I was alive. In movies, the character building is probably my favorite part too, so this was awesome! (thanks for starting these threads.)0

Just did this mission the other day, and it's easily my favorite one so far.
Heck...I think that *I* am even a little bit in love with Sam after that one.
If anyone EVER saw me out running these missions and talking back to the characters, they would think I was crazy.0 -
Oh man, I'm a baby. I totally started tearing up! It's my favorite mission! (There's a reason I do these missions at night....The darkness helps hide my over-reactions.0

I wish I could do these missions at night.
I don't know what it is, but I have some weird mental block where I absolutely HAVE to do this stuff out at the nature center or on trails in the woods and state parks here, and they all close at dusk. I don't know why, but I just find myself unable to walk/run with this app on city streets. I think I just like the solitude of nature.0 -
Also, during "A Voice In The Dark", this song came on my playlist right after one of the mission chapters. It was like Sam played it just for me.

I just ran this mission tonight! So sweet.0

I'm getting the impression I'm missing something by running these missions in the morning, in bright sun light, on the streets in my neighborhood...0

I just ran this one last weekend! It was good (although from the start I still picture Sam as Rory from Doctor Who - from the very first mission, the first time I heard him speak, I thought - Rory! ) - but I don't do dusk or night runs - too hot this time of year for one thing, and too many potential "real" zombies about!0

Ha! Sam DOES sound like Rory!!! I never realized that.0
