Dumbells instead of barbell

Hey all
I'm quite new to 5x5- I just tried it out this week. I'm lacking a barbell at the moment, so do you think using dumbells are okay for the time being?

how much 'time being' are we talking? Dumbbells are a) much much harder to work with and b) don't allow you to go up by small increments so you'll find you stall harder and faster, but as a starting point for a couple weeks you could use them to build strength while you look for gear.

You can still get really good results just from barbells, as long as you are using enough weight. It won't be the stronglifts program per se, but alot can be done, even good compound moves with barbells. As Tameko2 says, they are much harded to work with than the oly bar and both hands working together.
