So, havign just injected myself (or rather had my husband inject me because I was too much of a sook to do the first one) with Clexane as per my obstetrician, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this in pregnancy? Any side effects? Opinions, etc?

Hello,
Yes, I do a Clexane injection everyday. I had 5 miscarriages due to a blood clotting disorder and so far the clexane seems to be doing the trick. I also take 150mg of aspirin a day too.
Thankful I'm not squimish about it because my husband runs from the room whenever I'm about to do it. He's a wheeny. I haven't noticed any side effects yet that I can think of. Other of course then the pain. Somedays I hardly feel it and other days it hurts like the devil. It's getting worse as my bump gets bigger and there is less loose skin. For the most part I have a high pain tolerance so I don't bother with ice but my sister (who also takes Clexane in pregnancy) got a numbing cream from her doctor to help with hers. How far along are you? Why do you take them (if you don't mind me asking?)0 -
I'm 7 weeks, 3 days. I had my first appointment with my new OB today, and she prescribed the Clexane along with 100mg aspirin each day, as I've had 4 miscarriages in the past. One was due to a bleed, but not blood clotting. The others' causes are unknown. I figure she thought there's no harm in trying it, and doing nothing seems to result in miscarriage for me? She had no hesitation about putting me on it, and says it will only be until about week 16 or so, until the pregnancy is very well-established, and will be seeing me every two weeks for now to see how things are going. It actually hurt much less than I expected. I kept trying to do it myself, then told my husband I can't and gave it to him, and he just jabbed it in..and it actually hardly hurt. So now I know not to wuss out, and to just do it.
Edit: Had an u/s with her today, and saw a very healthy little heart beat, and a possible twin, though nestled way back and hard to see whether developing or reabosorbing. Should know for sure after the next u/s in two weeks.0 -
Ah, that's lovely about the ultrasound. It is such a relief to see a heartbeat, but I know the anxiety doesn't go away that easily. I'm still having crazy anxiety at 17 weeks when I can feel the baby kicking!
Sounds like your hubby is good at the injections, it is best just to jab them in and get it over with. I didn't find them painful to start with but as the weeks go on... I finish mine at 34 weeks and will have cake to celebrate at the end I think!
I definately think it's worth a try at clexane after so many miscarriages. My first pregnancy went without a hitch but my daughters placenta was in terrible condition due to all the clotting on it when she was born and we were very lucky she came early or we might have lost her. My sister has also had 5 miscarriages and went on to have a healthy baby with clexane, if that makes you feel anymore hopeful. I hope this is your 'take home' baby. It won't be easy but you can do it!0
