HIV and MFP

So apparently my HIV meds have the unfortunate side-effect of me packing on the pounds. I just started MFP last week, but it's really inspired me to stay healthy and fit, not just for my overall health, but to help combat medicinal side-effects. Has anyone else noticed 1) the weight gain and 2) if MFP has helped you keep the resultant meds weight off?

In 17 years on the meds, I packed on a lot of pounds. But I think that was due to eating too much for too long, not a direct side-effect.

The meds did very quickly send my cholesterol and triglycerides through the roof. But losing ~35 pounds in the last year did help that quite a bit. My doc had me cut my statin medication in half since I lost that weight.

I've gained weight due to Zoloft. It seriously increases the appetite and reduces the metabolism.

I've definitely to lose weight with this medication. I've managed to drop 11 lbs over the past year or so, but this last 10 is really a challenge. I'm currently VERY strictly watching what I eat to see if I can get past this plateau. Add me if you like.

Hey Mikey. I've been on lexapro and klonopin (depression/anxiety meds) for like six months now but I've still managed to keep the pounds off. And YES MFP has definitely been a big help. I enjoy logging in everyday and seeing what my pals are up to. Its very nice to have encouragement and inspiration. It keeps me in a "healthy" mindset and makes me less likely to slack off. Hope ya stick around xx
