How to get over "mom guilt"?

Hi Ladies,
I am a new mom to a 5 month old boy after TTC for MANY years and have just went back to my full-time desk job. I have a 45 min commute (one-way) to work so I leave the house around 6:45am and don't get home until 6pm. By the time I get home, I am exhausted and then I only have a few hours with my little one before he goes down for the night. How do you ladies find time to exercise?! I was thinking of joining the local gym but that would mean time away from my little one at night...and I don't get that much time with him during the weekdays as it is...oh yeah, and time with the hubby too! LOL Anyone else battling the "mom guilt"? How do I get over it and make myself a priority too?

    Hi -

I actually had a similar post last month. My now 4 month old and 2 year old have adjusted just fine with my working out. Like you, I'm gone 10 - 12 hours in a day, sometimes on weekends, too, because of my job. My husband has been great about helping and I've been doing the 30 Day shred to save time and get a work out at home. If I want to go to the gym, I often go after the little ones are in bed or on weekends during nap time. I am just a happier person working out and taking care of myself. I also have so much more energy for them as well.

Good luck, mama! All of this will work out in the end!

Add me if you need some support!

It's nice to know someone else is in the same boat. I'll look for your post...Thanks!
  • Thats the reason I don't go out and work out. I work all the day so by the time I get home with my kids I want to spend some time with them because before you know it it's bed time and then I'd never see them. I'm hoping once it gets warmer out maybe I'll go walking with them right after dinner. But I kinda know I prob won't end up doing it because by the time I get home and get bath and dinner done I'm exhausted and just wanna watch some tv and go to bed. It's a nasty cycle

I am on mat leave right now so I do spend all day with my baby.... but 3 times a week (usually mon-wed-fri) I go to the gym when hubby gets home from work. The rest of the week, I am all theirs :) I understand wanting to spend time with the kids as well, but even if you went twice per week and then maybe did something at home twice per week? Once they are old enough, I am assuming children generally become a workout all on their own lol.
