I know there are some people tracking their C25K progress on another discussion and I get so much inspiration from their progress and determination. I also know some of them have signed up for 5Ks. Does anyone else have a 5K coming up? I thought it might be fun to keep a schedule of when we are doing our races and we can post our victories, share experiences and just encourage each other to the finish line.

I have my first voluntary 5K on 14 Feb, and a second one on 1 Mar. I'm kind of excited. The only 5Ks I've done in the past were commander or chief directed and I usually end up walking the last half. I'm also nervous since I don't have anyone to run with me and I'm worried I'll be out there surrounded by serious runners, end up left in the dust and lost on some random path not even close to the actual track. I know, I'm weird. (And around here, you don't want to end up on a random path with no friendlies around.)

My 5k is on April 7th. I have never run before and I just finished week 5 of the couch to 5K. I can make it about 2.5K in 28 minutes. My goal is the 'run' the entire 5k. Even if I am the last one, I really want to accomplish this goal! Let me know how your 5K goes on the 14th. I'm excited for your results! And PS - You are NOT weird!! Good Luck!!

I have never done a 5k before, but think I need to start practicing. I believe my daughter decided tonight that she wants to do girls on the run, which ends with a 5k. When she runs the 5k she need an adult buddy. I couldn't imagine NOT doing this with her. Before 2 weeks ago, I hadn't been on my treadmill for 2 months. I have mostly been doing weights and cardio with weights the last month in a half. I am amazed at what that does to help you. Today I jogged for 30 mintes (2.6 miles) straight without stopping! I find it much harder to run outside though, so I guess once the weather breaks I will need to get outside.

My 5k is April 6. I've done a lot of "runs" including a half marathon and mini triathlon (5k run, 12 mile bike, 800 meter swim). But I've never actually run a 5k, I'm more of a fast walker. My goal is to be able to run the 5k in April. I'm also planning a funny marathon in October. So I'm sure seeing everyone's good work with their runs will give me the motivation I need to kick up the training.

Are you putting your treadmill at an incline? That helps with the transition from inside to outside. I did that for a couple weeks (running at a slight incline), then split my weeks (half outside/half on an incline) and now I hate running on a treadmill. I know I'll have to do it again when I get home cause 3-, almost 4-year-olds don't make very good running partners, but at least for now I'm "enjoying" the desert air and training outside. And I definitely think you should do the 5K with your daughter - that sounds like so much fun! Good Luck!!

I read that in order to mimic outside, you have to keep your treadmill at a 1% incline. So, I do have it set for a 1% incline. The problem I think I will have is pacing myself outside. It is easy on a treadmill. And I agree, it would be totally cool to run with my daughter. I plan on doing it for sure!

I survived the 5k today- it was cold, muddy and super windy. But I got someone to run it with me and he made me keep pushing harder. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get there earlier enough for a free t-shirt AND it was a true 5k (only 3 miles) but they did have bananas and I haven't had a banana since leaving the states last fall. And my 3 mile time was under 30 minutes, so I would have definitely made my 5k goal of under 35!! Next run is 1 March - same route I think, but now I know it and maybe I can improve my time.
