Hello Everyone!!!! So glad I found this group of great horse people. I have read a few of the discussions and find that this is a good place for me to start making friends that have the same interests and goals.
Here is a bit about myself:
I have ridden horses since I was 3 and they have been a big part of my life since. I've been knocked off a bridge by a mean little shetland pony when I was 5...lol but it didn't deter me any. I was thrown from him too but thankfully my mom caught me in mid-air. My riding continued and eventually I started taking hunter/jumper lessons when I was 9. Unfortunately I had to move in with my dad so those lessons stopped and I just became a pleasure rider. I really wanted to get into barrel racing but my dad just didn't get my love for horses. He'd allow me to go on trail rides and hang out at the barn but that was about it. It wasn't until I moved out that I was able to buy my own horse and what a joy that was . I bought a beautiful palomino stallion named Stubby...not sure why they named him that but I let him keep the name since that is what he was used to. He wasn't a typical stallion.... I could ride him alongside mares with no problem.... just couldn't keep him tied near one if we took a break on trail...lol. I found out later after I bought him that he had been abused but I made sure that would never happen to him again. I worked with him everyday... took the bit out of his mouth because his mouth was so hard and I trained him to a hackamore.... eventually all I would have to do is touch his neck with the rein and he'd turn. There wasn't a hill that I'd point him to that he wouldn't go up or down. He was by far the best trail horse I ever had... especially after I broke him from trying to rub me off with trees (simply pulled my leg back and let him run into the tree...lol). I eventually had to sell him due to financial reasons but he went to a wonderful family.
After selling Stubby, I was without a horse for a couple of years and oh how I missed them. So my friend tells me she bought a colt from a well known breeder and that she had more to sell. Off to the barn I went and ended up buying my second horse. She was 7 months old at the time and I couldn't keep from thinking about how crazy I was...lol. She was a breeding stock paint and was a beautiful chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. I knew I had my work cut out for me because she wasn't even halter broke yet. Long story shortened a bit, she is now 15 years old and absolutely gorgeous. She has never bucked or reared a day in her life. Anything can be done with her. She will always be my pride and joy. Unfortunately, she is no longer mine. I gave her to my neighbor when hardships came along but I do get to see and talk to her everyday.
So here I am today 41 years old and trying to get myself back into shape for the next horse that comes into my life. I'm always on the lookout for one but I know if I can't get to a decent weight then I will not be able to ride again comfortably (not to mention for the comfort of the horse). And I hope that with the support of great MFP horse nuts I will be able to ride again!!!

She's lovely, and looks like a tank! I love the flaxen mane and tail, my boy Nugget has the same. I've always had a soft spot for cute blonds!0

Mmmm, chestnuts. I love chestnuts. (Just don't let Jackson hear that, he's black.)
Hope you get a lovely horse of whatever colour back in your life soon!0 -

Yes...she is a fat tank...lol. I am partial to blonds too. Palominos are my favorite but chestnuts with a flaxen mane and tail are my second choice. Actually, my first choice would be a liver chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail...now they are just awesome0 -

Lol... I won't tell him if you don't. And thanks, I honestly can't hardly wait for the next horse to enter my life and heart0 -

Welcome and thanks for the update! Aren't Shetlands little buggers! LOL We had one; she was a baby sitter. Unfortunately she had trouble staying in the pasture!
<~~~There is my boy Sunny (Love Sunny Days LFR) working in-hand. We do very short spurts for muscle building. I am his barefoot trimmer and just started with body work study...Masterson Method. I use Reiki and other forms of energy work.
I am fascinated by how much I can bring back TBs. It has amazed me how confirmation can change! Sun lives with 11 other boys, 8 are OTTBs
I am also into clicker training. I am doing a lot of that on the ground and at liberty now. Our ground is pretty bad for Trails. Ring is okay as it was sunny and the outdoor is in a valley, too.
In fact I dragged an outdoor lounge chair into the ring and hung with Sunny as he enjoyed a pad of hay. he lost weight while I was gone for three week:(
would LOVE to see pics of you as a youngster!0 -

Sunny is beautiful!!! My mom has a red bay but she is partial to dark bays. She'd probably REALLY like him
I am sure I could manage to scan a couple of old photos. I know that there are a few pics with the mean little shetland too....lol. He was an escape artist also... my grandmother couldn't keep him in a fence. He always went down the road and into another pasture with other horses. I think that my grandmother finally said enough was enough and ended up letting him stay there.
I had a friend that was into Reiki.. she even built a personal pyramid out of copper pipes. Unfortunately, copper thieves stole it from her Amazing what some people will do at the expense of others.0 -
Glad to have you aboard!
I am 33 and have four horses. I ride Western & English and learning dressage. I started in Hunter/Jumper, have barrel-raced & ran poles, done english and western pleasure and am about to start Competitive trail riding soon.
I still have my first horse, her name is Lady and she is a 30 year old paint mare I got when I was 12. I also have a 7 year old stock paint horse gelding named Doc, a 14 year old AQHA Appendix gelding named Cinco (my mane man!) and a 3.5 year old Saddlebred/QH gelding named Cajun.
Always welcome more horsie friends!0 -
Hi, I've just found this group and I'm loving the mfp way of life..I have 1horse, she isa15.5 draught grey mare named Minnie. I would love to have some horsey friends here so please feel free to invite me. I wish that there was a calorie count for my daily yard work and today I have to pitch a half ton bale of straw into my bedding bay! Think of the calories burned. I am from rainy England and am completely surrounded by mud at the moment.0

I'd log that under snow shovelling, linmin!0
